(Matt's POV)
Mama lays in the bed with me, reading a book like she does most nights. Usually, Wendy is in her bed by now, but tonight she's not.
"Mama, is Wendy okay?"
Mama looks at me with a sad smile.
"No, she's not. She's sleeping with her Mama tonight just in case anything happens."
"In case something like the park happens?"
Mama nods her head.
"Yeah... But tomorrow she will finally start getting better. You won't see her for a while, though."
I look back at Wendy's bed before back to Mama.
"Where will she be? Is she going to go back home? Wendy wants to go back home. I think that's what's making her so sad."
Mama brushes my hair back.
"No, they can't go back home. You know how sometimes people have to stay at Papa's work to feel better?"
I nod my head. Papa told me that's when they need extra help.
"Is that where Wendy will be? She needs extra help?"
Mama smiles again.
"Exactly. She'll be back, but she needs to stay for a while before she'll be okay. She needs to have people watching her in case she might almost hurt herself like earlier."
"In case she thinks she's dreaming?"
"Yeah, in case she thinks she's dreaming."
I feel sad because I don't want Wendy to go, but if it will make her feel better, I hope it helps.
"What about her Mama? Is she going to stay here still?"
"No, she'll be staying with Wendy. One more question, and then we get back to reading, okay?"
I think for a moment to pick the best question.
"Will Wendy's friend be going too?"
Mama's quiet for a moment.
"Most likely. He follows her, so if she goes, then he should too. You tell me if you see him again, okay? Do you see him now?"
I look around my room. It's empty besides a dark person that looks like a drawing in the corner of my room. He's sometimes there at night, but sometimes follows Mama when he's not gone.
"No, he's not."
Mama begins to read again before giving me goodnights.
