Mama is on the floor, building with me. We're making a house. It's going to be so big. I help Mama by making one of the towers super tall.
"Be careful, my Little prince. If you make it too tall, it will fall over."
I think it will be fine. It needs to be super tall so they can see far away. I try to add a blue block to the very top, but it falls.
No!
I sit there looking at the mess as sadness grows in me.
"Mama! I tried, but it fell. It was only one more piece! It's ruined."
I begin to cry, and the blocks in front of me get blurry.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. What does Mama usually say?"
...
I can't think of anything right now. All I keep thinking about is that the tower is broken.
"Let's take a deep breath and calm down. Accidents happen, but we have to calm down before we can think of a way to fix them, okay?"
I don't want to take a deep breath!
"Do you need a hug? Do you need Mama's help calming down?"
I look up and see Mama holding her arms open, and I go to her. The sad is too much, but Mama always helps me feel better. Mama holds me tight and breathes loud and slow. I'm still sad, but it doesn't feel too much.
Mama talks to me calmly as she still holds me tight.
"Now, would you like Mama to help you build your tower back?"
I nod my head.
"Yes, please, Mama."
Mama lets me go, and we both scooch over to where my fallen tower is.
"Okay, now we have to be careful that we build it bigger on the bottom to help support the top."
I listen and watch as Mama puts pieces together. I hand her the ones I want her to use next. It's not long before the tower is back up, and I'm happy again.
"See, now that wasn't too hard. Whenever we are facing a problem, it's okay to be sad about it, but we need to make sure we aren't too focused on our feelings so that we don't take the time to see how we can fix it, okay?"
I nod my head again.
"Okay, Mama."
Mama smiles and brushes my hair back before giving me a kiss.
"You know, Mama sees another problem that I need your help with. I want something sweet, but I don't know what. Do you think you can help me decide?"
I jump up, excited for more dessert.
"Yes! Can we have the chocolate pie? The one with the white stuff on top?"
Mama gets up, and we head out of my room.
"I think that sounds like the perfect one. Do you want some milk with it in your dinosaur sippy or trucks?"
"Dinosaur. Thank you so much for getting me some milk, Mama. I love you."
Mama brushes the back of my hair.
"I love you too, my Little Prince."
