The Metropolitan Area
Social media extensively spread the news regarding the connections of various entrepreneurs, politicians, and prominent figures at local, national, and even international levels, not only with Organized Crime but also with transnational networks of human trafficking, influence peddling, and even pedophilia rings; many of those implicated issued statements; some feigning calm, others claiming to be victims of "artificial intelligence," while others reacted with fury, vehemently denying any implication. Representatives from consulates began to file complaints.
Evidently, numerous groups commenced a frantic search for the author of this chaos in vain. However, the worst was yet to come when the President and his Secretary made the following declaration: "La Fiscalía General de la República will conduct a thorough investigation, and anyone found responsible, regardless of who they may be, will be punished."
Panic swept through both the ruling party and the opposition as if the end of the world were imminent. Although many did not see their names exposed, they feared that eventually, they might be uncovered, whether because they themselves or others were aware of their involvement, or rather because, indirectly, they were linked to the guilty parties and as they granted them "favours."
Paradoxically, the Navarez family's name didn't appear on the list, yet that of several of their associates did. This prompted a flurry of calls to Bernardo Navarez from various acquaintances: Financial Messiahs, underworld kingpins, politicians, entrepreneurs and many more demanded protection, solutions, answers, the culprit behind this incident or even a scapegoat.
Navarez Office, the City.
— What the fuck are we gonna do, Bernardo?
— Calm down for once, Adalberto. Whining won't solve anything. Our name isn't on that list.
— Look at all the fucks you give! You know damn well that whoever leaked that information has ours as well. Several of my associates, along with those I bought contracts from, are on that list! If they get caught, we're screwed!
— If you wanted to fuck with those bastards, then I forgot the part where that was my fucking problem.
In that moment, Bernardo received another call and answered.
— Hello?
— Hi, Bernardo. I assume you're already aware of the mess occurring in your country.
— Yes, I am. None of you are on the list.
— Yet you understand that we may appear. That doesn't worry us; however, what does is that names of our associates in Europe, Canada, and the United States are already surfacing. This could lead to a problem. Is your presidential candidate involved?
— No, nor is the one for Governor of the State. They are clean, but several of their collaborators not.
— We know one of the bitches who obtained much of that information is free. If we capture her, we could save our asses and find out who the mole leaking this information is. The Serb, as far as I know, hasn't said a word...
— Yes, I know. But from what I heard, I doubt he can hold out much longer. They've went medieval on his ass, yet he remains silent.
— That's why we need his Romanian girlfriend, and also the traitor and her Russian friend. But I just stumbled upon something that might get us out of this predicament.
— Go on...
— It seems they want to find the Serb as they put themselves as baits.
— What?
— Exactly, she'll come to us, and supposedly several of her 'friends' will trail her. Well... we should give them a surprise, and while at it, we can find our target and also do a favor to some of our friends who are willing to put their hands on many of those wenches. I need you to coordinate your people..
