Part 9 Chapter 4. Diplomacy

Ocean 250 km from Meihark, Principality of Qua Toyne
Principality of Qua Toyne Task Force
Universe class Cruser 'Proxima', Task Force Flag ship.

The Principality of Qua Toyne task force consists of 3 ships, the Universe-class cruiser 'Proxima' as the flagship and escorted by 2 modified Cosmos-class frigates. Although they look ancient, the three ships have a level of technology similar to warships in World War II. The three ships employ air search radar, surface search radar, and sonar, utilizing a combination of solid state and thermionic electronic components. Moreover, the fire control system already employs technology from the Second World War. The radar range, particularly on the cruiser, is significantly extended due to the flatter planetary curvature, measuring approximately 150 km. The three ships sailed towards the direction where the alien craft came from.

On the bridge of the 'Proxima', Admiral Pancarre, who was the leader of the task force, sat in the admiral's seat on the bridge. As befits a modern ship, if the admiral was on the main bridge, then the captain would always be in the CIC, where most of the radar and sonar operators were.

Suddenly the XO shouted to Admiral Pancarre after receiving information from the CIC.

"Admiral, we're getting a number of echoes at the edge of our radar's detection capability. There appears to be a number of large ships approaching us. Radio detectors are also detecting radio chatter as well as possible high-powered radar-purpose radio transmissions at very high frequencies, higher than our radar frequencies." The XO said.

"Is that from the party that sent the flying ship yesterday?" asked Admiral Pancarre.

"Unknown, admiral. Their speed is also considerable, they are approaching at 25 knots. Three ships in total." The XO said.

"Set condition 1. All crew to their stations. Alert all commands." Admiral Pancarre said.

"Yes, admiral." The XO said.

The condition 1 alarm was sounded on all ships belonging to the Principality of Qua Toyne. The crew immediately headed to their respective battle stations. The hydraulic systems to drive the main and secondary armaments were activated, and all weapons were prepared for firing.

"Target is at a distance of 97 km from our position." The radar officer said over the intercom system.

"Contact them. Use all languages we know. Also use manacomm to contact them." Admiral Pancarre ordered.

"Yes, admiral." Said the XO, who immediately contacted the communications department to relay Admiral Pancarre's orders.

Seconds passed as tensions rose on all three ships of the Principality of Qua Toyne, especially on the main bridge of the 'Proxima'.

"Has there been an answer to our transmission?" asked Admiral Pancarre.

"None so far, admiral." The XO said.
