To all silent kuya and ate:

Some people are drowning in debt…
not because they’re careless—
but because they’re silently carrying everyone.

Not all debt comes from shopping.
Sometimes it comes from sacrifice.

From being the eldest child who became the second parent.
From helping with tuition, rent, medicines—
while barely surviving yourself.

It’s easy to say “Mag-ipon ka!”
But harder when your paycheck has more names on it than yours.

And we don’t talk about that enough.

We glorify the givers,
but rarely ask if someone’s checking on them.

But here’s the truth:
Helping others should not mean hurting yourself.

You are allowed to set boundaries.
To say “hanggang dito lang muna.”
To build your own foundation
so you can keep giving from a place of strength—
not struggle.

Because debt doesn’t just happen from buying wants.
Sometimes, it comes from love.
From being responsible.
From giving too much and forgetting yourself in the process.

So to the silent breadwinners out there:
You are not selfish for wanting to breathe.
You are not wrong for needing rest.

You deserve stability too.

And one day, when you’re in a better place,
you’ll help again.
But this time, not from pressure,
but from peace.
