Steve grumbles, looking at the newspaper articles regarding the Creel family, "Okay, be honest. Uh... you guys understand any of this?"
"No," Lucas sighs.
Dustin shrugs, sitting on the couch next to Lucas, "It's pretty straightforward."
"Oh, straightforward, really?"
"Well, what's confusing to you?" he asks sincerely, "So far, everyone Vecna has cursed has died, except for this old Victor Creel dude Nancy found. He's the only known survivor. If anyone knows how to beat this curse, it's him."
"Yeah, that's assuming he was cursed, which we don't even know." Steve sighs, "How can Vecna have existed in the '50s? It doesn't make sense."
"As far as we know, Eleven didn't create the Upside Down. She opened a gate to it. The Upside Down has probably been around for thousands of years-- Millions-- I wouldn't be surprised if it predated the dinosaurs."
"Dinosaurs?" Angie questions from the top of the stairs.
Steve opens his arm to her as she slides into his side, "It's Dustin's theory about the Upside Down."
She nods as Lucas speaks up.
"But if a gate didn't exist in the '50s, how did Vecna get through?"
"And how is he getting through now?" she mumbles.
"Exactly," Lucas smiles, "and why now? Why then? I mean, he just pops out in the '50s, kills one family, and then disappears for 30 years? Just to start killing some random teens?"
"I don't buy it." Angie shrugs.
Steve grins in agreement, "Straightforward, my ass-- You know, honestly, Henderson, a little humility now and then, it wouldn't hurt you."
"Sorry," Dustin mumbles, rolling his eyes.
He leans back in his seat, his gaze drifting to Max as she drafts away on pieces of paper.
"Any ideas about what she's writing?" He whispers.
Lucas shrugs.
"Did she sleep?" Angie asks, her eyes fixated on the girl.
"I mean, would you?"
The door opens loudly, followed by the footsteps of Robin and Nancy.
"Okay, so..." Nancy smiles, "we have a plan."
She hands Steve a file of papers, which Angie has the courtesy of scanning over his shoulder.
"Thanks to Nancy's newspaper minions, we are now rock-star psychology students at the University of Notre Dame."
"I'm now Ruth."
"And I'm now Rose."
"Nice GPA," Dustin mutters, looking at the 3.9 listed on the form.
"Thanks," she beams. "So we called Pennhurst Asylum, told them we'd like to speak with Victor Creel for a thesis we're co-writing on paranoid schizophrenics--"
"To which they said no." Robin finishes.
Angie raises her head from the paper, "How does that help us?"
"We landed a three o'clock with the director." Nancy explains.
"Now, all we have to do is charm him and convince him to let us talk to Victor."
"Then maybe we can rid Max of this curse."
"Yeah, about that." Steve stands, "We've been doing our Victor Creel homework, and, uh... we got some questions."
