"It just doesn't make sense," Steve mutters, holding the funnel in place.
""What doesn't make sense?"
"That was Dan Shelter," he explains, recalling Robin's run-in with Vicky at War Zone.
Angie perks up from her spot next to Steve, "Didn't he graduate, like, two years ago?"
"Yeah," he agrees, watching the gasoline flow.
"So?" Robin scoffs.
"So, he's in college," she reasons, "Which means he was visiting on spring break."
Steve nods, "And Fast Times was returned, like, I don't know, a week ago? Right? Unless she's got some corndog brother we don't know about-- which is possible."
"Or she's just really intimidated Judge Reinhold?" Angie mumbles, taking the filled glass from his hands.
"I don't care," Robin shrugs, looking between the two of them, "And, I don't understand why you guys do either with everything that's going on... Honestly, this feels like a perfect time for that little pull of the rug because... in the face of the world ending, the stakes of my love life feel spectacularly low."
"Yeah," Steve says softly, "I mean, I get you there."
Angie agrees, "When everything was going on in the mall, it was really hard to have hope. But, you just have to hold on to that idea."
Robin shakes her head, "I don't know. Not everything has a happy ending."
"Yeah, believe me, we know," Steve chuckles, trying to shed some light on the situation.
"No, I'm not talking about a failed romance," she corrects "No, I just have this... gnawing feeling that... it might not work out for us this time."
Their gazes fall, letting the brief silence encase them.
Steve and Angie can't help but recall their conversation in front of the grocery store... where he begged her to make it through.
After a moment, Steve looks up.
"You think we shouldn't be doing this?" he asks.
Robin shrugs, continuing to pour, "I think we're mad fools, the lot of us, but..."
"We have to try, right?" Angie mumbles, placing a comforting hand on her knee.
"Yeah," she grins, "If we don't, who will?"
Steve lifts a bottle of alcohol from the pile, "To killing Vecna."
"Slash Henry," Angie joins in, lifting her own glass.
Robin pauses, taking in the moment.
"... Slash one."
They don't linger long in the field.
There's just too much at stake... even if they pretend there isn't.
Angie's the first to pile back into the RV. Then, Steve and Robin, followed by the others.
The ride is eerily silent, everyone taking in what could be their few last hours of life.
Of course, they all knew the plan.
And, they all wanted the plan to work more than anything.
But, they weren't that naive.
They stop at the Creel house first, dropping off the Sinclair's and Max with a heavy sigh.
Max exits last, flashing Angie one last sympathetic smile.
