The former Palace Master had never been faced with an opponent so ruthless before as the man who was currently fighting him. He had made the decision very thoughtfully when he separated these two. Shen Qingqiu was poisoned, he knew that. He wouldn't make it long in the Abyss without a physician to aid his symptoms. He wouldn't be of much help to his disciple either. But Yue Qingyuan...

Not only was the man a monster when it came to this husband of his, the former Palace Master had read enough intelligence to know that. He had read about what had happened to his assassins. One beheaded for as much as an offense, others beaten and tortured for information until one man couldn't move or speak for weeks. He had heard about what Yue Qingyuan had done with the Skinner Demon when it had caused Shen Qingqiu to get almost lethally wounded in the late Master Chen's manor. And also what he had done to that man himself after he had allegedly assaulted Shen Qingqiu in his bedroom.

There was even a rumor that the man's death not long after their departure had something to do with him. It wasn't like the man had not already been suffering of poor health, but a guard claimed that a maid had poisoned the old man's food and that Yue Qingyuan had given her the means to do so. Of course the woman had never admitted it. Old Master Chen had been known to be highly unfavored amongst the female servants and given the fact that he had assaulted a man simply because he looked a bit feminine and had a man by his side that he seemed close with, there was no wondering what he had been doing with those young women when he was alone.

It truly was funny how the man could have thought Shen Qingqiu to be an easy target. As much as the old Palace Master looked down on him, he could not deny that Shen Qingqiu was someone that shouldn't be messed with. He would ruin you and he could even seriously injure you, if he just wanted it.

Apart from being so ruthless, Yue Qingyuan was also extremely determined. If someone found a way out of the Endless Abyss, it would be him. Especially because he would be afraid that Shen Qingqiu would die without medical care and he couldn't take that.

Even the former Palace Master knew by now that these men were nothing without one another. But Yue Qingyuan was the bigger problem. If he reacted to minor wounds and offenses with such violence, what would happen if Shen Qingqiu got properly cut off from him?

He would break. And that was what the old Palace Master wanted.

A sect was done for if the leader wasn't strong. So what if he couldn't attack them? He would at least weaken them. All that talk about that sect being like a family could surely not be meant literally. If external forces didn't kill them, internal ones may just make them fall. Everyone desired power, even if Shen Qingqiu didn't admit it, he did too. Who was to say that the remaining peak lords would not try to take the place of the sect leader once Yue Qingyuan was a wreck?

The former Palace Master licked his lips in glee. That thought was enough to make up for the three years he had to spend in hiding, convincing those arrogant demon nobles to move to his side and strike at the conference.

If they thought that they could ally with demons then so could he. And after what he had heard about especially these two when Shen Qingqiu had moved against him, he had been convinced that they were the right ones to ask. Even when he had to think of a way to get rid of them afterwards.

Linguang-jun and Jiuzhong-jun were both hungry for power. While Linguang-jun's ambition merely was to rid himself of his nephew and gain power over the Mobei-clan, ruling the North, Jiuzhong-jun was a different story.

After Tianlang-jun's long absence, the demon had begun to believe that he could usurp the demon lord's throne. He had been in fact most displeased to hear of an heir and soon after of the fact that Tianlang-jun had been freed. With the way that noble was, he couldn't have dreamt of ever gaining that power. He was way too weak, disorganized and arrogant. But the former Palace Master had assured him regardless. He had told him, as long as the human realm would be his, he would kill that Linguang-jun for him. Then he could gain both the south and the north.
