Before even the first firework had been fired, the people watching the whole tournament had been ripped from the peaceful enjoyment. At fírst nothing had indicated that anything was wrong. The young men and women had fought off the beasts in the gorge easily. The only injuries that had occurred were minor and either because of a lack of skill or attention, rather than an actual danger regarding the fights.

No one had thought that anything was wrong, until Mobei-jun abruptly rose from the cushion he had been relaxing on. Alarmed, the cultivators closest to him turned their heads.

"Mobei-jun, is something the matter?" Su Xiyan asked, watching as the demon stared fixedly at one of the crystal screens hanging above the platform.

The man didn't answer. Instead he formed a seal with his hands, enlarging the screen he was looking at, then he made the spirit eagle, which was sharing what it saw, focus on a specific part of the image. What came into view now was a mighty white beast, almost resembling a snow tiger, but with a twisted horn on its forehead and glowing light blue eyes. Two young cultivators and a demon stood against it, backed into a corner against a cliff.

"Someone sabotaged the conference," he said flatly.

"What? Clarify," a sect leader demanded immediately.

Mobei-jun did so readily. He had planned on doing so anyway. "That beast is a horned snow tiger, native to my lands. I personally ordered which beasts were to be caught as a contribution for the tournament. This one was not one of them. It's too dangerous for young humans to fight against. But only Mobei-clan nobles of the purest blood can command them. There are only a handful left alive and only two of them have the ability to make them obey. One is me."

"You are saying someone of your clan smuggled in a dangerous beast without your knowing?" Su Xiyan demanded to know.

"Not just someone," Mobei-jun disagreed, "Linguang-jun. My uncle..."

The rage in his voice was undeniable. With how few ups and downs his tone made when he spoke to anyone but Shang Qinghua, it wasn't hard to guess that this man's relationship with his uncle was more than ideal.

"Linguang-jun is not a good person," Shang Qinghua said quickly, his eyes wide in fear, "He may be Mobei's uncle, but he always tried to harm him. He also hates humans. He would never pass up a chance to gain power or to implicate him. It's very likely that he used this opportunity to try and bring down his nephew and this alliance in one move."

"Send out groups to investigate immediately and try and get help to the contestants," Su Xiyan ordered loudly, "Every leader present sends three troops. Zhao Hua Monastery, try to find out the location of powerful demon cultivators in the gorge. Until they are found, all the higher skilled demons will remain as a group, so they will not accidentally be mistaken for the enemy. The tournament is on hold until–"

A series of loud noises cut her off. At once hundreds of lights shot into the sky, exploding into a shower of fire.

"There is no time, they need help now," Mobei-jun decided, "I know how to find Linguang-jun. I will take care of it."

Before Su Xiyan could protest, the demon had already grabbed Shang Qinghua and jumped off the railing into one of the emergency portals set up for the sect and clan leaders.

"Fine. Zhao Hua Monastery shall take care of reinforcing the barrier. NOTHING gets out or in. There are too many civilians in the area. If there are high level beasts about, we have more chances of dealing with them while they are trapped," Su Xiyan commanded instead.

Shen Qingqiu felt his pulse quicken as he stared fixedly at the crystalline screens above the platform. One by one they were flickering out. Just before the last one did, the spirit eagle sending back the image flew over a lake. Two figures stood there, side by side. One clad in gray, the other in white. The lake's surface broke open before them as a giant head rose from the water.
