When Shen Qingqiu woke up, he had the strange feeling that he had dreamt something weird, but he really couldn't remember what it might have been. His head was no longer properly bedded on Yue Qingyuan's chest, but rather his face was buried in it. Mainly because Yue Qingyuan had turned towards him slightly. Shen Qingqiu was still encircled by a pair of arms. Or rather one arm. The one that would have laid under him was now between them, one hand holding on to his. It was hard to say who had reached out to whom in their sleep.
Looking at this big hand in his, Shen Qingqiu came to notice something he had failed to see before. It was not exactly anything special. On the contrary. There was a simple silver ring adorning one of Yue Qingyuan's fingers. It showed signs that it had been worn for a very long time already. At least a couple years.
There seemed to be nothing distinguishable about it. When Shen Qingqiu hovered his fingers above it, he couldn't sense any incantations or anything. It was just a simple silver ring. But if so, why would Yue Qingyuan be wearing it for so long? Was it important to him?
Shen Qingqiu was torn from his thoughts when Yue Qingyuan suddenly moved. The man was awake before Shen Qingqiu could even react. Now he lay there, looking into Shen Qingqiu's eyes as the man was still not letting go of his hand. Well, initially. Now the thin skinned Shen Qingqiu drew back very quickly, trying to sit very straight to pretend that nothing had happened.
Yue Qingyuan couldn't help but stare at the man's reddened cheeks. No matter how often he saw this, the view was still enchanting.
"Th...that there. Did you have that for long? I don't remember you wearing jewelry much," Shen Qingqiu tried to distract quickly.
"I've had this for a while, yes. About four and a half years," Yue Qingyuan replied.
"A sentimental piece I assume," Shen Qingqiu pushed further.
"Yes. It was a gift." Yue Qingyuan couldn't help but glance at Shen Qingqiu's hand. Had he not noticed his own ring? Or was he asking because he had.
"Looks like a bit of a thoughtless gift. Could have at least been enchanted or something," Shen Qingqiu grumbled. Somehow it displeased him that Yue Qingyuan had been gifted something that he held so dear that he never took it off. Shen Qingqiu knew it couldn't have been him who had given this to the other. He would have given him something more precious with at least one protective incantation and some gems. He could afford that now after all.
"It wasn't thoughtless at all. I really adore this ring," Yue Qingyuan returned. Oh, how spitefully Shen Qingqiu spoke of the givers' intentions while he had no idea that he was that person. Perhaps he should sit Shen Qingqiu down later and tell him after all. "Do you not like it that someone gave this to me?" Yue Qingyuan asked then, trying to inquire a little.
"Wh...why should I care about that?" Shen Qingqiu asked loudly, he scrambled to crawl out of bed, "I'm hungry. Go make breakfast!"
Yue Qingyuan's expression softened greatly, but Shen Qingqiu didn't see it. His little Xiao Jiu was so obvious. Yue Qingyuan could see it all so clearly and he couldn't even tell. Well, he had always been his Qi-ge and no one else's. Even in their childhood. Shen Qingqiu had made sure of that. He had the right to be jealous.
"Didn't I tell you to make food?!" Shen Qingqiu hissed from behind the folding screen.
"You have," Yue Qingyuan stated. He had to hold back from adding a 'my love' after. Shen Qingqiu was so hissy when he was uncomfortable. It reminded him of the time Shen Qingqiu had dominantly ordered him into the guest room and tortured him for a good hour until he had– "I'm on it," he gasped out, now fleeing the situation himself.
