Wei Ying wakes up feeling refreshed after a short nap, his cheek squished on Lan Zhan's magnificent chest.
"I'm so lucky," he murmurs, enjoying the peace of these moments.
Nothing is pressing upon them, there's no chores or duties pending either. Lan Qiren has given them a week off to celebrate Wei Ying becoming an Immortal and to prepare for their wedding, which is in three days' time. Wei Ying can just lie here and listen to Lan Zhan's heart beating under his ear and feel tremendous amounts of devotion and love. But he also has a worry on his mind, one that he's not sure how to bring up without it being awkward. Maybe if he skirts around the real concern in a roundabout way, perhaps Lan Zhan will inadvertently answer the thing Wei Ying wants to know about.
"I can hear you thinking. What is on your mind?" Lan Zhan's lovely deep voice rumbles up through his chest and just above Wei Ying's head.
"Did you...have a good time?"
"A good time?"
"Yes. Just now...during and well, after Papapa. Did you have a good time?"
"Yes. Did Wei Ying not feel how much of a good time was had by both of us?"
"No, no, I did! But like, was it extra special?"
"Time spent with Wei Ying is always extra special."
Wei Ying lets out a breath of frustration. "That's not what I mean."
"Perhaps Wei Ying should be clearer."
"Alright. Did you get any extraordinary tingles?"
"No."
"What about goosebumps?"
"No."
"Did you have pins and needles?"
"No? Why would I get those? I was very comfortable. Before, during and afterwards. Wei Ying." Lan Zhan lifts his chin with a finger, looking into his eyes. Shimmering, beautiful and silver like a moonlit lake glittering with frost. "What is worrying you?"
"Well, the thing is, we've been dual cultivating for a while now and if I've reached my limit in what I can achieve, I was just wondering if you had a weird, unexplainable experience that meant you were Immortal too. That's all." He looks away, unable to say his real worry out loud.
"Hey!"
He lets out a yelp as Lan Zhan flips them over. In the blink of an eye, Wei Ying's wrists are captured and held in one large hand and raised over his head. He wriggles experimentally, feeling Lan Zhan's interest grow in this new position. Chest to chest, pressed together everywhere that matters, Wei Ying looks up into golden eyes flashing with concern. They're so beautiful, like sunlight shining through tea-coloured glass. Lan Zhan's whole face is softer, curious.
"To answer your question, no. But I am not overly worried about it. Tell me what is really bothering you."
At these words, Wei Ying's panicked glance flits over Lan Zhan's face. "How can you tell?"
"I have been practicing. I know Wei Ying well, or I hope I do. I am...unable to look away when Wei Ying is close to me. Also, no changing the subject. Tell me." Lan Zhan leans in to kiss his scrunched up cute button nose.
"Alright." Wei Ying thinks about which words he can use without offending Lan Zhan. "I don't wanna upset you," he starts off saying.
"Impossible." Lan Zhan sounds amused, as if he really believes that.
"Well, are-you-upset-that-I-got-to-be-one-before-you?" Now that it's out there in the open, Wei Ying can't seem to look away from Lan Zhan's face.
He smiles straight away. "No. It's more the opposite of that."
