Humans, all I smell are humans everywhere. I never thought I'd be so relieved at the thought. We arrived in Topia around noon, leaving earlier than planned from our rest. Now we were walking through a city that was even bigger than Coverton. But at least there was no immediate threat. Tall concrete buildings surrounding us at every angle, cars were bumper to bumper on the streets honking every few seconds. People we smashed together on the sidewalks, Jax held tightly onto my hand as people pushed past us. Yelling, laughing, and a thousand different conversations were happening all at once. This was a nightmare, I needed to get out of this cramped area before I started to suffocate. Tyler lead the group as we tried to find a hotel to escape this disaster of a city. There was so much happening, so many buildings but not one hotel in sight. Just department stores, restaurants and what looked liked office buildings. Jax squeezed my hand as he looked back to me, all I could do was look everywhere at every face.
"Found one!" Tyler shouted, barely audible from all the other noises, if it wasn't for our heightened senses we would not have been able to hear him. With one last push through the cramped sidewalk we were able to steer left to a rounded driveway towards the hotel entrance. Still a bit crowded but at least we had breathing room, the covered entrance shielding us from the blazing sun. We were drenched in sweat not only from the sun but from the gathered heat of all the bodies, I take a deep breath glad to finally be out of that nightmare. I was not a fan of being around so many people, it made me uneasy and I always felt like I was suffocating.
We entered through the revolving door one by one, the air conditioned building wrapping us in a cold blanket never felt better. The inside floors covered in white marble with reddish brown accents creating an elegant design. Rounded white marble stairs on each side of the large lobby, lined with black intricately designed hand railings meeting at the top of the second floor. Passing between the stairs towards the reception desk in a rounded design adjacent to the curved white marble walls. The dark brown marbled desk with golden accents holding three expensive looking computers each with a female employee typing away and answering phone calls. It was quiet in here, with small conversations held in whispers. As we got up to one of the females, she ignored our presence not once pausing her typing. Her glowing blonde hair flowing freely down her back and bright blue eyes, her soft facial features giving her a refined look, concentrated on whatever she was doing. We stood there for a few seconds waiting to see if she'll acknowledge us.
"Hello?" Jax broke the silence but she never faltered, we exchanged looks with each other as we tried getting her attention.
"We'd like a room please." Jax pushed on, she gave us a look like we shouldn't be here, like we didn't belong in this expensive hotel. Her eyes darting back to her computer for a few more seconds before she stopped.
"We are all booked." Her listless look did not go unnoticed as she gave us all a once over. We were all dressed in black combat clothes, dirt decorating parts of our clothes due to sleeping in the woods.
"How about any suites?" It was Tyler who decided to enter the conversation. The woman gave us an incredulous look. She went back to her computer, typing away. We stood there silently as we waited.
"We have one, the presidential suite. Fifty thousand a night." She added the last part hinting that we could not afford it. Tyler pulled out his black card as he put it on the desk in front of her.
"We'll take it." Surprised, she took the card and ran it through the system. Almost immediately her demeanor did a complete one eighty. She smiled showing off her perfect, bleach white teeth.
"How long will you be staying with us?" She beamed at us as she handed back his card, he looked back to us and then back to her.
"Two nights." With that she handed us two key cards and called for someone. A man dressed as a butler came out of a room from behind her. She exchanged words with the older gentlemen, his once brown hair turning grey from the roots. His dark eyes shooting us a look before nodding to the woman.
