The next morning we packed up and left the hotel quickly, that woman's warning didn't sit lightly with Jax. He wanted to leave last night but the rest of us agreed that a good nights rest in a bed would benefit us greatly since this would probably be the last time we would be sleeping in a bed for the rest of the trip. The walk out of the city was longer than when we entered, lasting about an hour. The good thing was that since it was early there wasn't as many people out just a few early risers. Some joggers, people walking their dogs and some headed off to work.
We didn't talk, not knowing who could be listening so we just kept walking until the city started to dwindle down to a few buildings here and there until eventually there was nothing. Passing a sign that read 'Leaving Coverton' I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, relieved we were out of the city. Being in such a crowded place not knowing who's watching and who's not is just unsettling.
The conversation last night was long, and their questions just kept piling up, I barely knew anything myself. All I knew was that Giles was a Fae and these Fae were keeping their distance but still watching from who knows where. The thought had me looking around like if I tried I could spot one of them somewhere around us. At least it made sense why Giles knew so much about everything, I also learned that the Fae worked with the royals or at least some did. Jax had mentioned he knew a little bit about them from his parents but not a lot, they were a very secretive species. Cade and Tyler knew as much as I did which was pretty much nothing. Every time we get some answers more questions just keeping piling up and it's just frustrating.
"We should stop here, eat something and then we'll start back up, thirty minutes sound good?" Jax suggests as we nod in agreement, I drop my pack and stretch. Grateful for the rest I drop to the ground digging through my pack for food that Cade so graciously spent the night making for us so we had food to eat once we left the city. I went to bed once they were satisfied with the information from dinner. The three of them stayed up, I could hear they were having a conversation about the new information I gave them but I was too tired to stick around. I grabbed the sandwich, unwrapped it and took a bite thankful for the food.
"Thanks man, this really helps." Tyler said to Cade as he took a bite from his own sandwich. As I was focused on my sandwich I had not realized that Jax had taken a place next to me until I heard the leaves crunch, I whipped my head in his direction making me jump in my spot. Resulting him to give me a look.
"A little on edge there firebug?" He jokes. A little on edge was an understatement, I was completely on edge. Who knew what was out there watching us, for all we knew there was rouges ready to ambush us.
"You could say that." My mind was all over the place, with everything that's happened lately who wouldn't be? Knowing that my parents put up a price for my capture, there was no doubt that every rouge or anyone wanting to make some extra money would be on the lookout for me. If anyone knew we were in Coverton I wouldn't put it past them to have followed us out of the city. I look around instantly hoping if we were followed maybe I could notice something, anything to hint that there was a sign we were in fact being followed. The thought making me feel uneasy, I wrap up the rest of my sandwich and pack it up, having no more appetite for food. My instincts telling me we should keep moving.
"Everything okay?" I look at Jax as he shoots me a questioning look.
"I think we should keep moving." I stand up, looking around once again, something feels off.
"Do you see something?" Cade's turn to question me .
"Not yet, but I just have a bad feeling." With that they pack up quickly and stand, ready to start moving again. We put our packs on and start moving, Jax does a once over the area giving us the all clear.
