Kade Monroe 2
Y/n POV
Tony had just finished up Kody's cut when Leo came back from the back room, wiping her hands on a towel. She walked over like she owned the place, hips doing that little sway I knew she used to exaggerate whenever she caught me looking back in high school.
"Who next? Kade?" she asked, leaning down to him as he sat in the booster seat.
"Nah, Tony doing him," I said, leaning back in my chair. "You just tryna steal my brother's heart again."
Leo smirked, biting her bottom lip. "Maybe I am. He used to love me."
"He was three," I said with a small laugh.
"He had good taste early." She winked.
I swear I felt my ears heat up.
Kody hopped out the chair, brushing hair off himself. "Ms. Leo, you still pretty."
"Thank you, baby," she said, ruffling his waves. "Your sister always kept me around some charmers."
"Alright," I muttered, rolling my eyes but smiling anyway.
Leo moved closer, her shoulder brushing mine lightly like she was testing the waters. Testing me.
"So what you been up to, moni?" she asked low, like the conversation was just for us. "Besides bein' Supermom and all that."
I shrugged. "Workin'. Taking care of them. Grown-up shit."
She hummed. "You look good doing it."
I blinked. "What you mean?"
"You glowed up, Y/n," she said straight up. "I was looking at you earlier like damn... I let that go?"
"Girl shut up," I said, covering my face.
"I'm serious." She nudged me again. "You got fine. Like... real fine."
Tell me why my heart started doing that stupid fast beat.
"You ain't look too bad yourself," I muttered.
"Awwww," she teased softly, leaning in. "You still get shy."
"I don't get shy."
"You do. Your ears get red."
I covered them with my hoodie like a kid. She laughed—that laugh—and damn, it felt like I was seventeen again.
Tony looked over. "Y'all still flirting like y'all in the hallway before third period?"
Leo shrugged. "Some habits don't go away."
I swallowed hard.
Kade tapped my leg. "Moni, look." Tony was almost done, lining him up carefully while Kade swung his legs like it tickled.
"Aww, he gon' look so handsome," Leo said, smiling over my shoulder. She smelled like vanilla and something warm, and I hated how it made my chest twist.
When Tony finished with Kade, I picked him up and brushed hair off him.
"You wanna go get a snack?" I asked the boys. "We finna head home."
"Yeah!" Kody said, grabbing his bag. "Bye Ms. Leo!"
"Bye, sweetheart," she waved.
I turned to head out when she caught my wrist gently.
"Y/n."
I looked back, heart doing a weird jump.
"You still coming tomorrow? For Kody's hair?"
"If you still want me to," I said.
She stepped closer. "I do."
We were close. Too close. She was looking at my mouth and she knew I noticed.
"So... can I ask you something?" I said.
She tilted her head. "Ask."
"You wanna go on a proper date?" I said, voice quiet but bold enough. "Not just... catching up in a barbershop. Like... me and you. A real one."
She grinned slow, like she'd been waiting on that exact question.
"I been hoping you would," she said. "Text me. We'll pick a day."
Her hand slid slowly off my wrist, fingers dragging just a little longer than necessary.
"See you tomorrow, moni," she said with that soft smile that used to ruin me.
We left, and Kade was still talking about his haircut, but all I could think about was Leo.
