OTM

I had no clue basketball was such a big deal.

From the moment Bey surprised Carter with the game tickets, it was the only thing he could talk about. It was the most excited I'd seen him in his life, probably.

I wasn't as excited, but I was excited that he was excited and an excuse to dress up never hurt either.

Carter was dressed for the game probably since the first thing in the morning and that was hilarious because the game didn't start until 7pm. I made him pancakes that looked like basketballs so I may as well have been the best mom in the world.

Bey said she would be over around 5:30 to talk so I made sure to be ready by then. I considered dressing down since we were going out with Carter, but my son deserved to know that a baddie birthed him so I changed. My final outfit was a black crop top with a leather jacket over, black jeans that zipped up on the side, and Margiela Tabi boots.

I was still in my room finishing up my hair in front of my vanity when I heard the front door open and Bey yelling something from downstairs. Before I could even move a muscle, I heard Carter running downstairs so I didn't bother.

It wasn't long before there was a knock at my door and I heard her voice again. "It's Bey."

"Come in!" I told her we had to talk, so my room was probably the safest place. I was glad I cleaned up the disaster I made from getting dressed and the only thing on my bed was the leather jacket I was planning to wear.

She walked in, closing and locking the door behind her. "Hey."

I turned around and gasped with a smile on my face. It was the first time I saw her dressed down in forever. "Awww! You look so cute!" She was wearing loose black jeans with a rockets jersey and red leather jacket.

It reminded me of the Bey I met in college, before she became a big lawyer.

She laughed, "I knew you'd say something about it. Carter had the same reaction."

"You look way younger when you're not dressed all corporate." And she had the top portion of her hair up in a ponytail, I hated how much I was living for her look.

"I don't know if I feel insulted by that or not so I'll hold off on a 'thank you' for now. But I told Carter to eat a snack so we have a minute alone. What did you want to talk about?"

"Uh, let me finish my hair first." I needed to get my thoughts together before we just jumped into that.

Bey barely even let me pick my curling iron up before she was sucking her teeth and taking it from me. "Just let me do it."

"Bey, there's nothing wrong with the way I do my hair." Despite my claim, I let her take over doing my hair.

"I need to get you a Dyson Airwrap, first of all. You do your hair fine, just slow, and it would look better if I did it." Her mom used to do hair so she thought she was a professional.

I was annoyed with how cute my hair came out. I hated for her to be right.

After l put away my hair stuff and sprayed some perfume on, we sat down on my bed facing each other. I took a deep breath before I started speaking. "Okay. More than I enjoy our amazing sex and everything else, I enjoy the co-parenting relationship we've built, and the last thing I want to do is ruin that. I don't want to hate you, but if you have me looking stupid twice, I probably will. I don't care how hard the truth is to say, honesty is the only way any of this will work."

She nodded. "Understood, and I completely agree."

"Well, I'm glad you agree." I cleared my throat and straightened up my posture. "I have a couple questions for you."
