This has got to be the longest crush ever.
BEYONCÉ
I was finally going out with Onika, and I was excited. I kept telling myself it wasn't a date, but I was still planning for it like it was.
She told she she would be busy in the morning and that was true because she didn't call me until the middle of the day letting me know she would be free at night but that worked perfectly with what I had planned.
I was thinking we could first go bowling at the old bowling alley people used to go to when we were in high school and then go to dinner after. It was the calmest option. I rented a sage green Mercedes so I offered to pick her up and she accepted.
I spend the whole afternoon with my mom and sister, so when the sun started to go down I slipped away and went to my room to start getting ready.
Overthinking wasn't even the word. I didn't want to over or underdress, and I didn't bring that many different options to begin with so I was stressing myself out. It felt like I was in high school all over again.
After trying on several different outfit options, I finally settled on cream straight leg pants and a heavyweight white t-shirt. I didn't want to be too extra with my outfit but I wore a hundred thousand dollar watch just for some extra flair with my plain outfit.
On my way out of the door after Onika texted me that she was ready, I went downstairs and saw my mom and sister still in the kitchen so I knew there was no avoiding them.
I popped my head in. "Hey, I'm about to step out for a second."
Solange immediately started smirking. "Where are you going looking and smelling this good?"
"Out to see a friend." That was as much as they needed to know.
My mama looked at me with a knowing look and hummed in agreement. "This must be a date. I haven't known you to want to do anything but see us when you come home."
"Yup." Solange nodded. "Who's this friend of yours?"
I mumbled, "Onika." I was reluctant to even say her name because I already knew what they were going to say.
Solange swooned, "Ouuu. Onikaaaa. I forgot she existed. Are you finally going to make a move on her after all these years?"
"Alright, yall. I'll be back later tonight." I didn't want to answer any questions or hear any teasing so I waved and quickly made my way to the door.
My mama yelled after me. "Be safe, baby! Love you!"
"Love you mama, love you Solo." I walked out of the door and went to the rental car so I could start making my way to Onika. She already sent me her address already and I was thankful it wasn't that close so I could get my nerves out on the drive there.
About twenty minutes later, I pulled up to a nice townhouse and took a minute to breathe before I texted her saying I was outside. I was way too nervous, I was even stressing trying to make sure I had the right song on when she got in the car.
It didn't take long before she was walking out of her house wearing blue jeans, a white crop top, and a pink cropped cardigan. She was finer than ever.
She got into the car with her notorious bright smile and flowery scent. "Hey, Bey." She hesitated for a second before she leaned over and gave me a hug. "This is a nice ass car. Where are we going?"
"Thanks." I tried to play it cool with the hug. "I was thinking we could go bowling at that alley by the high school and then go get dinner after. If that's cool with you."
