BEY
I loved college.
I was having the best time, and that was probably only because classes hadn't started yet.
Freshman moved in early so we had about a week before we actually started classes from when we moved in. There wasn't anything to do but make friends and go out.
We spent the day after move in and that crazy ass party recovering because we overdid it with the alcohol. The next day, we got invited to go hang out on campus with some people we met. I invited Onika to come with us, but she declined again.
I couldn't force her to come out with us so I told her to let me know if she needed anything and then left.
It was fun. We smoked, went to get food, then back to one of our friend's dorms to chill.
One of the girls was staying extra close to me but I wasn't complaining whatsoever because she looked and smelled good.
We spent a couple hours there just hanging out, talking, and joking. You would've thought we'd known each other for more than a day and a half. We found a couple potential moves for the night so left to chill on our own before we had to start getting ready.
Us being us, we had to stop at the liquor store again to reup on alcohol for the night before we could go back to our own dorm.
We put everything we got into our fridge and then went our separate ways. I wasn't even all the way to the door when I heard light crying from the other side of it.
Oh God. I was terrible with my own emotions, let alone other people's.
I hesitated for a moment before softly knocking on the door and then walked in a second later. She was sitting at her desk with her head in her hands crying, but she quickly brought her head up when I walked in. I cleared my throat and spoke as gently as I knew how, "You okay?"
She nodded and then immediately started crying again. "Sorry, this is so embarrassing. I'm fine, I just got off the phone with my parents and I'm more homesick than I thought I would be."
I felt bad, especially with her crying right in front of me, but I didn't even know how to comfort people. "I'm sorry about that. Do you want a hug?" She told me she was a hugger so that was the best I could come up with.
She sniffled. "Yes, please." She got up from her desk and wrapped her arms tightly around my body.
I patted her shoulder which felt stupid the second I did it. We stayed in silence for a moment and just hugged because she clearly needed it. "It'll be okay, give it a week and you probably won't even want to go home."
"...Hopefully."
She was still trying not to cry so I felt bad. "Hey, why don't we knock some things off your bucket list? Come to a party with us tonight, it'll make you feel better."
"I want to, but I'm kind of nervous. I don't think I even have the right clothes to go to a party after how I saw your friends came back from the party yesterday morning."
Yes, we stayed out that late that Onika was in the kitchen making cereal when we were coming in. Robyn and Kelly made a hilarious first impression.
"Well, I'm sure we can raid their closets for something." We finally separated from our comedically long hug. "It'll be like a makeover montage in a movie, they'll do your makeup and all that." I was volunteering them without even asking but I knew they wouldn't mind.
She folded her bottom lip in nervously. "Are you sure? I don't want them to think I'm weird or anything."
"I'm positive. We got you." I meant that. I would do whatever to not have to deal with tears.
