Y/N's POV
Not so far away, a girl woke to the sound of explosions. She groaned. Weeks had passed and there had been non-stop blasts all across the country. It was as if another World War had started. Her name was Y/N, she was fourteen, had dark brown hair, which was slowly going black, with bright red streaks, and intelligent but often distant E/C eyes. Her parents had died when she was very young, leaving her living with her elder sisters, B/F/N and F/N, and their grandmother, G/N. Nobody at her school ever talked to her, except the teachers or to make snide comments which she easily brushed away. She always had her head in a book, reading or writing, or ducked over a guitar practising her music skills. She often practised long into the night with nothing on her mind except her music. Her biggest dream was to, one day, be a singer-songwriter, whom everybody knew about. Teachers weren't bothered about her missing any classes, as they knew she was in the library brushing up on her facts and figures. She often wore black ripped jeans and a red T-shirt, covered with a black jacket, and barely looked anyone in the eye, as if she didn't want to draw attention to herself.
"Come on Y/N! School starts in an hour!" F/N, her sixteen-year-old sister yelled up the stairs.
"Yeah! Bet you can't wait to get back in the library!"B/F/N, the seventeen-year-old, teased her."I'm not going to the library today," she called back, having rolled out of bed and was pulling on her jeans. America was full of kids who were complete glamour fanatics and she wasn't one of them. She didn't care what she wore, as long as there was red and black on it. They were her favourite colours. She threw on her jacket and slid down the banister to catch up with her sisters.
"Wish these explosions would stop," F/N complained, handing her a cereal bar.
"I know right."
"Wonder what's causing them."
"It's like it's World War Three, girls," G/N, their grandmother limped over, Just be careful out there won't you?""We will. And besides, ever since the explosions started, we've had a trained surgeon as our school nurse. That way we're eighty percent sure to come home safely."
"Oh yes, I forgot about that."
"We'd better get going. C'mon sisters."
