chapter thirty seven
They decided not to stay in Maryland for two days. After what had happened to Brynn, they went back on the road to their next destination.
Brynn picked the movie, The Proposal, because that was the only movie they had that that was fun to watch.
The boys were all so concentrated in the movie that they barely even noticed Brynn coughing. It's another asthma attack, she thought.
She stood up and walked towards the driver. "How long till we get there?"
"About five hours. Take a rest first."
"How about you? You should rest, I can drive."
"No, I just started my shift. And thank you, but it's my job," he said, focusing on the road.
She shrugged it off and took a cup of water. She went to her bunk and bent down. She was startled when someone spoke to her.
"Hey," he smiled.
"Michael? The movie sucked didn't it?"
"Nahh, It was pretty good. Don't tell anyone, I watched it already. You? What are you doing here? You don't like the movie?"
She shrugged. "I was thirsty."
"Ohhh okay. Concert tomorrow," he smiled. He took a cup of water and poured in some juice.
"I know! It's gonna be my first time to watch at the backstage though. It better be good."
"Will be a very memorable one," he guaranteed.
Brynn opened the refrigerator and looked for some food. She took some spam and bacon and fried it.
Michael sat down on the table. "Tell me more about you. I'm bored."
"Brynn, 21, Female, born and raised in New Jersey. Uhmm? Pretty much that's it," she scoffed. She reached for the plate down below the stove and transferred the bacon.
"Michael, 22, Male, born and raised in Western Sydney. Uhmm? Pretty much I have more," he laughed.
Brynn finished cooking, but she reached for the flour, sugar, baking powder and others. "Aren't we going to eat the bacon yet?" Michael asked.
"Nah, I'm going to make some Maple and Bacon cupcakes. Besides, there's still an hour and a half left for the movie, so we can all eat together."
"I wanna eat now," he stood up and was about to reach the strip but Brynn slapped his hand. She took the platter of bacon and placed it beside her.
"Why are you so mean to me," he pouted. He stomped his feet back to the table and crossed his arms.
"I've never had bacon cupcakes."
"Well you'll have now," Brynn said, stirring in the wet ingredients in the dry ingredients. She poured the batter in the cupcake tin.
She placed it in their mini oven and sat down; trying to breathe in as much air she can. She placed her hand on her knee for support.
"Are you okay?" he asked; scooting next to her.
"I just got tired," she faked laugh. She patted his back and stood up to get some water.
"What's that smell?" Calum shouted from the back lounge.
"Bacon Cupcakes!" she shouted. She grabbed her phone out quickly to see a text from her mom.
mom: How are you? I miss you already :(
brynn: i'm tired, made some cupcakes. I miss you too :) I'm going home soon after a couple concerts. I love youShe faintly smiled after she sent the text. She was speaking to Michael when she heard the oven ring.
She let the cupcakes out and cool and made some maple buttercream. "It's a good thing you have a stand mixer and some powdered sugar. It's surprising you even have food at all."
"Uhmmm? What do you think Liz does here?" he sarcastically said. "Aside from babysitting Luke," he whispered.
"I heard that," she laughed. She piped the buttercream on the cupcakes and placed one on each plate.
She gave some to Michael and the three boys who are watching the movie.
"And for you, Mr. Hemmings," she handed the plate and sat down beside him. Luke took a bite of the cupcake and icing was all over his face.
"Awwh you look cute," she pinched his cheeks. Luke took a huge bite of the icing and ate it all up. He smashed the remaining cupcake on Brynn's face.
"What the-" she wiped of the cake from her face. "Why would you do that?!"
"Putting icing on your face is too cliché. Besides, you look too cute already, I have to make you look ugly. It's just not working though," he pouted.
He pulled her to a hug and squeezed her real tight. "What a disgusting couple," Calum and Ashton threw a popcorn at them.
"We're not a couple."
"Not yet."
"We're just friends."
"She is I'm not," he smirked, quoting Gus from The Fault in Our Stars.
"Shut up, Gus is a lot cuter than you."
"SHUT UP! RESPECT THE MOVIE!" Michael shouted, coming in the room with his second cupcake.
"Yeah Luke," she scoffed. She pushed Luke away but he was holding a grip on her.
"Wait wait stop," she pulled away from Luke. She felt weak and her asthma attacking.
"I'll take my medicine."
