chapter twenty seven
"Thanks," she whispered. She laid her back against the trunk of the tree and gazed at up in the sky.
Brynn stood up and looked for another good resting spot. "You're not gonna run again, are you?" Luke asked.
"No, I just like to gaze up the sky but these coconut leaves are on the way," she smiled. "There," she walked towards a tree with less leaves.
Luke was about to stand up and follow her. "No. Stay right there, I wanna watch you."
"Aghh. Okay," he sat back down the tree and stared at Brynn, who was looking up the sky.
Brynn noticed that he was staring at her by he peripheral view. She looked down and smiled him. "What?"
"Nothing. I just miss-" Luke was cut off when Brynn spoke up, knowing what he was going to say.
"I'm hungry," she said.
"Me too. Do you know how to fish?" Luke asked, standing up from his position. He waled towards Brynn and offered his hand.
Brynn took it for support. "Nope."
"Climb up a tree?" he asked.
"Nope," she laughed. She took her backpack from the other tree and wore it.
"Great, then we'll starve," he joked. "Just kidding. I know how to fish," he smiled.
"I'll fish with you then," she smiled. She passed by him and walked towards the water. She found a branch nearby and all she needs now is just a stone to sharpen.
"Wait up!" he ran towards her. "I'm supposed to hold that branch. I'm the one who knows how to fish here."
"Nu-uh. Find your own," she continued to look for a stone. Luke, on the other hand, was just following her.
"Okay, so we'll fish separately. If I caught one, I'm not giving you because we're on our own," Luke answered back. He found a really sharp stone and showed it to Brynn.
"Give that to me!" Brynn shouted. She was too desperate to find a stone that she just wants go and get Luke's. She walked towards Luke and tried grabbing the stone.
"No! That's unfair!" Luke raised the stone, knowing it was possible for Brynn reach it. Well, how would you possibly take something from a long legged human being that's raising it?
Luke slowly walked backwards, still raising it. While Brynn is walking closer to him. "Give it to me!" she screamed. "Why should I? I thought 'we' should find our own?" he answered back.
Brynn tried jumping but Luke was just too good to dodge her hands. "Shortie!" Luke laughed.
"I'm not a shortie! Just handed to me!" she screamed. Luke still walking backwards, Brynn walking and jumping.
Luke didn't see the branch that was on his way and he lost balance. He fell on the ground. Things were too fast, causing Brynn to trip also. She landed on his face and stared at each other.
"Jolix Yeux," "Bonitos Ojos," they both said anonymously, both meaning 'nice eyes.' Luke just can't help it and he kissed her.
Brynn jumped away from him and slapped him. "How dare you?" she screamed. She ran away from him.
"Brynn! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!" he screamed. He ran to her.
"Don't you dare follow me, asshole," she screamed, hurting Luke. She threw the branch away and ran to the other side of the beach.
She ran away until her stomach growled. She placed her hand on top of her stomach. "I'm really hungry," she mumbled.
She took a random branch and tried finding a spot where most fish stay. She looked back and saw Luke, who was very far way from her. He kicked the sand and sat down.
She found a stone nearby and grabbed it. She sat down and started rubbing the stone against the tip of the branch. In not much time, she was able to sharpen it.
She stood up and tried looking for a fish, or any sea creature. She found a trout. She immediately poked it, but the fish ran away. She found another one, but it ran away too.
Hours have passed but she still does not have speared it. She learned some new tricks and styles but she just wasn't good enough.
She sat down and wiped her sweat. I'm really, really hungry, she thought. Suddenly, she started coughing. She got her backpack and looked for it.
"Shit, it's with Luke," she scratched her head. She badly needed it, she was coughing really bad, plus she's hungry. It's not really a good combination, you know?
She looked back and saw Luke was no longer there. She stood up frantically. She ran to try and get a better view, but he still wasn't there.
"Luke!" she screamed. She ran as fast as she can to their old spot, but he wasn't there. She went in the woods and in the further she want. She saw Luke.
But he was laying down, lifeless.
