chapter twenty six
Brynn woke up to a snoring person beside her. She slowly sat up and glanced to person next to her.
It is Luke.
What happened last night? she asked herself. She took her backpack and looked for her phone.
20 Missed Calls and 5 Texts from Mom.
"Oh great," she said. She swiped the missed calls notifs to the right and placed her phone by her ear.
It took 3 rings till her mom picked it up. "Where the hell are you?"
"I'm okay Mom," she assured her Mom. She placed the palm of hand on her forehead as she was listening to her mom.
"I want you back here right now or else I'm calling the police," her mom threatened.
"What? Why you do that? For Chet's sake mom, I'm 21! I'm supposed to be living by myself already, but I still live with
you!" she screamed, waking Luke up."You know your not allowed to live by yourself! The doctors won't allow it!"
"Why? Because of my goddamn asthma? That's a fuckin' lame excuse, Mom! I know there's something more to that than just that," she screamed even louder. Luke sat up and stared at her.
"I'm not coming home," she ended the call and huffed. She slammed her phone down her backpack.
She noticed Luke staring at her. "I'm sorry," she shamingly apologized.
"Your mom?" Luke guessed. He let out a little yawn.
"Yeah. She wants me to come home. I'm not fuckin' coming home," she cursed.
"I think you should go home. I'm sure your Mom has a definite reason why she wants you to come home," Luke suggested, which caused Brynn to feel betrayed.
"Oh so you're siding on her now? Well guess what, I'm not coming home," she threw her inhaler and phone in her backpack.
She stood up and wore her backpack. "Where are you going? We're literally in a middle of a forest. We're supposed to stick together," Luke said.
"I don't care where the hell I'm going. I'm not coming and I'm not gonna stick with you," she left and followed the very tiny piece of light just ahead of her.
She felt Luke get up on his feet and following her. She stopped and looked back. "Don't you dare follow me, because you don't know what I'm capable of."
"Yes I do," Luke smiled, still following her.
"Oh and what makes you say that?" she scoffed. The light was getting bigger, revealing the end of the cave. "Still think I'm that girl whom you were talking about?"
"No. I don't think that you're someone because I'm sure I know you," he smiled.
They were reaching the end of the cave where Brynn plans on running and escaping from him, wherever it may be.
"Oh really now," she scoffed, running out of things to say.
"Yes."
When they were about to reach the outside Brynn started running.
It was a beach.
"Brynn! Brynn wait up! Where are you going!" he started running to her. "You're asthma! You're gonna have an attack!"
Brynn ran inside more trees but this time it was a bit more spacious.
Just like Luke has predicted, she started to feel the shortness of breath. She started slowing down till she just walked up towards the tree and lay down.
She saw Luke from a far coming towards her; laughing.
"Get away from me!" she screamed. She folded her legs and rested her head on the top of her knees.
Luke walked in front of her and took the inhaler from her bag. He opened the cap and forced her to puff it.
"I'm not gonna let you go," he placed the inhaler in his pocket. "Not again."
