chapter eighteen
"Here here," Thomas let Brynn run inside a maintenance room he found. Thomas followed inside and locked the door.
Just as Brynn was about to speak, howls of girls emerged along the hallway. And in that moment, Brynn knew who he was.
"Calum Hood," she said. "I get it all now." Thomas slowly faced her, nervous to see her; he took his shades off.
Brynn mocked a laugh. She was almost too mad at herself for not even hinting it earlier. She sat there, wondering how she could've missed it, while he, sat there staring at her.
"I... I just couldn't believe it," she placed her hands flat on the ground to support her body as she stood up. "My friend already told me but I didn't believe her. I actually thought you'd be someone I could trust."
"I jus-" Calum leaned toward her and stole a kiss. Brynn, shocked, frantically pushed him away from her.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered. She slapped him on the face, took her purse and opened the maintenance door. "Let me explain."
Just as Calum was about to run to her, he stopped. He felt like what he did was wrong and she needed some space.
Calum, frustrated, placed his hand on his forehead and looked down. He saw her phone.
"Her phone," Calum whispered. It gave him another reason to run after her, but no, he thought.
Meanwhile Brynn made her way out of the mall. She had bumped almost every people she had passed.
"Watch it," one person called.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. She wiped the tear falling from her eyes. She found a restroom on her way out, and she ran to it.
She entered the room and locked herself inside the cubicle. She closed the opening of the toilet seat and sat on it.
She folded her legs onto her chest and wrapped her hands on it. She cried and cried until someone knocked her door.
She wiped her tears, fixed herself and opened the door.
"Ma'am, please don't lock yourself in there. There's a line," she pointed on the said line. Brynn peeked at the line and focused herself on the lady.
"I'm sorry," she exited the restroom as people rudely stared at her. She left the mall and sat on the nearest bench.
Her vision is all nothing but a blur so she barely can see anything around her. She brought out all her emotions when someone handed a handkerchief.
She grabbed it and wiped her tears. She blew her nose and handed it back to the person.
"Keep it," said the guy. He sat down the bench next to her. He stared up the sky and allowed himself to study it.
"How beautiful the sky is, eh?" He smiled. He glanced at Brynn and went back to staring.
"I'm not in the humor of 'amusing the sky'," she responded. She blew her nose once more and wiped her tears.
""I like the night. Without the dark, we'd never see the stars,"" he quoted from Stephenie Meyer.
She sniffed and rubbed her nose. "What?" she rudely asked.
"It means, without dark, we couldn't see the stars," he explained.
"You literally just use the same words in a different sentence," Brynn, clearly pissed.
"Without those dark times you are going through right now, you wouldn't see the 'stars' that would be shining through later on," he smiled.
She lifted her head from her folded legs and stared at him.
"Who are you? Why are you telling me all this?" she asked the young man in a suit.
"Call me Mr. Poetry," he informed.
Brynn chuckled, "I'm sorry, 'Mr. Poet," she chuckled once more. "What is this some kind of movie where one guy would be anonymous but is actually a serial killer?" she laughed.
He said nothing.
"I'm sorry. I just made that up. It's just funny, you're funny. I like you. I watch A LOT of movies and I never expected something like this can happen in real life. I hope we bump to each other again," she laughed.
"Oh dear, you know what they say, faith will find it's way," he chuckled.
Brynn stood up and shook Mr. Poet's hand. "Someday, I'm gonna find you're real name too," she promised.
She found her way to the hotel, much better. She felt lighter than she has ever felt. That is till she remembered Calum.
