chapter eleven
Casey waited for Brynn to leave her classroom. There she was leaning against the wall, carrying her uniform for work.
"There you are," Casey called from the outside. Brynn was still inside her classroom trying to fit herself in with the crowdy people trying to get out the room.
"You got your things ready?" Casey asked when Brynn got out.
"What things?" she confusingly asked. Brynn looks like she've been hit a hurricane and fell asleep on bare land.
"Uh, for work," Casey mocked. It's it obvious that Brynn is very preoccupied about many things she worries about.
"Oh fuck! I think I left it at home," she cursed. She opened her bag and searched for uniform. "No, No, No it can't be. Where is it? It has to be here!" she talked to herself. She turned away from Casey and started to walk faster than she could ever walk.
"Wait! Where are you going!" Casey shouted. It is quite a crowdy place along the hallway because the students have just been dismissed. Of course, they stay in their lockers first, before they ever go out of their campus.
"You know you are one lucky piece of shit! I got your uniform a while ago. Saw it hanging in the dry line," Casey having a hard to keeping pace with Brynn until she jolted.
"You did?" Brynn's face almost in awe of how her friend is very responsible.
"I did! Here," she opened her bag and handed Brynn her uniform.
"Ohmygosh! Thank you so much! This means so much!" she squealed. She took Casey for a hug and didn't let go until she took a glimpse of her watch at 4:30.
The manager and two girls decided they'll work at Starbucks at 5:00 pm sharp to have some time resting from school.
"Do you want to change here or in Starbucks?" Casey asked.
"Uhh, probably there. I don't want people to see me walking around with that uniform," Brynn confessed.
"Okay then," They took a cab going to Starbucks and used the remaining 10 minutes of their time dressing up.
They approached Grace to consult her what they are going to do. She toured them first around the place, which of course the two girls they already, and instructed them what to do for ever corner.
Luckily, the two were quick learners, they did better than the other past trainees. They got their tasks done earlier which impressed the manager. The two were just having fun on their first day and barely noticed that they were already time.
Casey have already gone home, while Brynn, who quite got a temporary promotion, took over the cashier's job. 'As usual, the little limpy ass cashier is late', Grace would say. Grace is the type of girl that is hard to socialize with, hard to please and hard to give her trust to anyone. She gave Brynn the counter while the cashier hasn't arrived yet.
"Brynn! You're overtime already!" Grace screamed inside the employee's room.
"I know, there's one guy coming, I'll take him, and then I'm going to leave," she peaked inside the employees room. She went back to her old positioned and waited for the guy to enter.
"Uhmm one grande Caffé Americano please," his lisp distracting Brynn. "I'm sorry, I said one Caffé Americano please."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Uh, yeah sure wait," she stuttered. She hurriedly punched the guy's order. This customer, on the other hand, kept staring at Brynn.
"Something wrong?" Brynn asked.
"No, I like your eyes," he complimented Brynn's dark brown eyes. She blushed and couldn't help but smile.
"Well, I couldn't say the same thing, unless you take off shades and your hood," she joked. "That would be $4 please."
He placed the money on the table as Brynn dragged it across to her.
"I'm Thomas, by the way," he smiled. Brynn handed him the receipt and instructed him to claim his order on the next station. Brynn rushed inside the employee's room where Grace was sitting.
"What's the matter you?" Grace scoffed. Brynn got that shivery, fuzzy, chilling feeling that one person get when they are infatuated.
"The guy outside, he complimented my eyes. His lisp is so sexy," she recalled.
"Well yeah, what is more sexier than going home and be resting. You know I would love to take your position so I can rest, but I can't. So get your ass out of her and go home," she shooed Brynn away. Brynn hurriedly grabbed her things and walked going home.
