chapter eight

"But the thing is, we can only work after classes on weekdays. On weekends, on a positive note, we can work full time," Casey spoke to the manager.

"Alright. So, we'll just have to lessen your salary to be fair. Oh and remember to be polite, and all those. Don't worry, we'll have Grace train you two tomorrow," the manager agreed. Casey, Brynn and manager stood up and shook hands.

Both girls left the place while holding their uniforms and entered their car. They arrived home shortly and Casey told Brynn she'd be going home soon for a couple minutes.

"I'll be right back," Casey left, closing the door behind her. Brynn ran up to their laundry room and washed her uniform. She plugged her earphones in her ears and sat on the sofa with her eyes closed.

Brynn woke up 10 minutes later when the doorbell rang. She grunted as she stood up and walked towards the front door. She opened the door to see her mother with a pack of groceries.

"Honey, can you help me unpack these items inside the kitchen. The others are inside the car," she begged. Rose, Brynn's mother, left Brynn by the door and went straight ahead the kitchen.

"Surprised you let me in your car," she sarcastically said. Brynn happened to be restricted from entering her Mom's car without her permission. It was as if she was hiding something in her car from Brynn.

Brynn went to her mom's car and started unloading things from the car, when she saw photo placed upside down. She was just about to grab it when her mom came back into the picture and got some groceries.

"Sorry," Brynn mumbled.

"For what? And hey, the groceries," she pointed at the packs Brynn left inside the car. She went inside and placed the groceries. Brynn got the last batch of packs in the car and placed inside the kitchen.

"We got the job," Brynn broke the silence. Right now, they are unloading the items from the bags into the fridge.

"You did? That's great news honey! But remember not to tire yourself too much," her Mom replied.

"Yes Mom."

"So when are you going to start?" she asked.

"Tomorrow, after school," she answered. Brynn feels nervous talking to her mom about this. She is afraid that her mother wouldn't allow her to work even is it was her idea for them to work in Starbucks.

"So I wouldn't be fetch-" Rose wasn't able to finished what she was supposed to say when her someone door belled.

"I'll get it," she whispered. She ran up to the window to see Casey on the other side of the door. Brynn opened the door and welcomed Casey in. She lead her friend to their kitchen, where Rose was unloading groceries.

"Mom, it's Casey."

"Oh hello darling! It's nice to see you come by," Rose lifted her head to speak to Casey. Casey smiled and waved. "I heard you guys got the job, Congratulations."

"Oh yes we did, and thank you," Casey smiled almost as if she was shy.

"Mom, I'm gonna take Casey up to my room. Please excuse us," Brynn dragged her friend upstairs.

"What do you want to do?" Brynn asked. Casey, surprisingly is very quiet.

"Eat. I'm hungry," she placed her hand on her tummy. "I'm craving for like, I don't know, cereals?"

"Cereals? why cereals?" Brynn opened door, laughing. Casey followed her downstairs and took a mug from the cabinet.

"Can you grab the milk for me Bry?" she asked. Brynn took the cereals from the pantry and the milk from the refrigerator.

They poured their milk and cereals onto their bowl and started eating. "How's your mom, by the way?"

"Oh she's fine. She's always at work, you know the usual. I just kinda wish she was closer to me," she sighed.

"At least you don't have to go solving around about events that has happened in your life before," Brynn rolled her eyes. She took a spoonful of her froot loops in her mouth.

"Oh yeah, well just a little more, and all will be revealed."
