chapter ten
Brynn woke up the next day to her alarm clock ringing. She groggily searched for her alarm clock and snoozed it. Just like before, she tried going back to her sleep, but she couldn't.
She stood up, stepped in her bathroom and showered. She got ready for school and grabbed her backpack. But before she left, she opened the door to her secret passage. A passage her mother never knew -it was the way going to their underground fridge.
Yes, it's real.
Her father was architect before he died in one construction site years ago. He designed the house and Brynn being daddy's little girl, got her daddy to fit in the passage to their underground fridge.
If you don't know what an underground fridge is, it is a fridge located below the floor. (Well duh) There is a huge glass encased on top of the floor and a button on top of the counter tops to open it. There is a staircase that will lead you to the underground fridge.
Their family still has a normal refrigerator on their kitchen though, its just really more for design.
Brynn snuck under her passage door leading to their underground fridge, and stole a couple of apples. She can see her mother preparing meals upstairs in the kitchen through the glass. She slowly ran back up to her room and placed her apple in her bag.
The other apple, is on her other hand. She opened her door, wait straight for the main door when her Mother noticed her leaving.
"Brynn! Have breakfast with me," Rose smiled.
"I don't want to eat," she lied. "I'm going to be late for school. Goodbye," she opened the door and left. She sighed in relief when she got pass through her mom.
She decided to walk going to school, since it was too early for the bus to pick up her. She kicked rocks, ripped flowers, humming, talking to herself on the way to school. She reached her destination about 15 minutes later.
But instead of entering her school, she went down to the nearest café. There was a cafe called 'The Avenue Café' just beside their school. Not much kids go in there before school, because they reach school really late.
Brynn usually goes to this café only when she reaches school early, which means, when her mother and her fights. She entered the cafe, ordered Hot Cappuccino and sat by the window. She opened her Twitter to check if any of the boys tweeted.
"Told Luke to shut up 'bout 2 days ago, its day 3 and he still hasn't spoke to us," Brynn sipped her caffeine while reading Michael's tweet.
I'm pretty sure it's still about the girl, she thought. She shook her head, shut her phone and rested her head against the table. She heard the bell by the door ding and looked up. Everytime a new customer enters, the bell rings.
Brynn was just about to take a sip from her caffeine when her phone rang. It was Casey.
"Yellow," Brynn greeted. She took a skip from her drink, then wiped her face.
"Where are you? I've been waiting for you outside your house," Casey worried.
"I'm in Avenue Café," she answered back.
"You're in school already?! Oh yeah, your mother and you fought. I'll be right there, don't move," she ordered.
"Yes ma'am," was the last thing Brynn said before she ended the call. She took straight 4 gulps from her drink which caused her to burn her tongue. She stood up, walked to the counter and asked for iced water.
She placed the ice water into her mouth and let it cool. She saw Casey entering the café 4 minutes later and hugged her.
"I was worried. I thought you were still sleeping," Casey panted.
"Did you run?" Brynn asked, bothered by her continuous gasp for air.
"Yeah, tried to get her as fast as I could," she confessed. "Wait, I'll just order," she stood up and ordered coffee.
"So, how are you and your mom?" Casey shouted from the counter,
"Well I don't know with her, but for me, not okay. I locked her out of my room," she answered. Casey came back with her drink on her left hand and her change on the right.
"Well, I think you have to talk to her, once and for all. Who knows, she might bring you to Australia," she wiggled her eyebrows. Brynn, a huge smile popped up from her face.
"No. Fucking. Way!-" a person from behind shushed Brynn. "You convinced her to allow me?" she whispered, but the excitement is still evident.
"I said 'who knows', I didn't say she will," Casey gave Brynn an annoyed look.
"Oh," was her only response.
The two girls stayed inside the café for almost about an hour when the bell rang.
"Well fuck!" Casey screamed. She bumped her cheek again Brynn's cheek and ran away to her class. While Brynn, on the other hand, could care any less if she was going to be late for Mr. Rothman's class.
