Another day, another drive to school. With the children sitting in the back, most of them seemed to be in a good mood. One girl, however, clearly wasn't.
"I swear, she wouldn't even do well! She has a gap between her teeth!" Kate ranted again, going on about her classmate Stacy 'stealing' one of the lead roles. "She only gets bullied."
Mikhail snorted. "Yeah—by you."
Holding Jesse, Lip glanced back at his daughter. "I thought you got another part."
"I'm a background character now! I deserve better!" Kate huffed, before pausing as a thought crossed her mind. "Yeah... I deserve better..."
"Oh no." Fred muttered from beside her, instantly concerned. "She's thinking..."
Right as Y/N parked the car by the sidewalk, a teacher approached to pick up the kids. Unlocking the doors, both fathers looked back.
"Have a good school day." Y/N said calmly.
"I'm trying!" Kate snapped, getting out of the car along with her siblings.
Once the doors shut, the two men were about to drive off when a teacher knocked on the window. Lip rolled it down, revealing a woman in her late twenties.
"Hi, Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Gallagher. I'm sure you're aware of the musical coming up."
Y/N sighed. "If this is about Kate, we're trying to make her less sassy."
"It's not about her." The teacher reassured. "The PTA and some of us have been organizing everything for the musical—building sets, costumes, rehearsals, lighting, all that. But we could really use more help. Would either of you be interested?"
Lip shook his head. "Sorry, I'm too busy handling the company."
"Yeah." Y/N added—earning a raised eyebrow from Lip.
"We understand." The teacher said politely. "If you happen to have time, feel free to call or drop by. Have a good day, sirs."
She smiled before stepping away to greet the next car.
As Y/N pulled away, Lip spoke up. "Why didn't you offer to help?"
"Because I'm working." Y/N replied, genuinely confused.
"Yeah—as my assistant." Lip pointed out. "The company can manage without you for a bit. Especially now that Mandy's working too."
Y/N frowned. "So I'm not relevant?"
"I didn't say that." Lip quickly corrected. He paused, choosing his words more carefully. "Look, if you help out, you're helping the kids. I'm not forcing you—I just think it'd be good for you to spend some extra time with them."
Y/N hummed softly, eyes still on the road as he thought it over. "...Fine. But I'm not the only one putting in the effort. I already work less than you and see the kids more. Seems fair you do something too."
Lip chuckled, gently rocking Jesse in his arms. "What do you want me to do?"
"Don't know." Y/N replied. "You're the dad. You're smart enough to figure something out."
Lip smiled. "Yeah... I guess I should've seen that coming."
-
"Alright, see you tomorrow." Y/N hung up the phone and sat back down at the table, where he was having lunch with his husband and Mandy. "Signed myself up. Already got any plans?"
