Ch 87. The Carnival

Summer vacation is almost over, and so is summer. Of course, the children are upset they have to go back to school—except for Lyn. Luckily, an opportunity has presented itself for one last fun activity before the vacation ends: the Chicago carnival. With stalls of minigames, prizes, and food, as well as several rides, the parents thought it would be a good idea to go. They even invited Mandy and Vlad to join them. However, right before they leave, a problem arises.

"I dunno what's with him."

While talking softly, the two fathers are ready to leave. However, they're standing in front of Alyosha's room. The quiet boy has shut himself up in his room, refusing to come out.

Y/N has a feeling about what's going on. So, he opens the door, seeing his son playing on his Nintendo Switch. The tall man meets his son's eyes before speaking up.

"You don't want to go because of the crowd?" Y/N asks, and Alyosha nods softly. The Russian then looks back at Lip. "Jesse probably doesn't like it either. I can stay behind."

"No, you should go."

"And get a babysitter?" Y/N responds, not really wanting to do that.

"I meant that you should go, and I stay." Lip clarifies, and Y/N stands up. "You've never been to one."

Y/N knows that the way his husband has been talking about the family outing means Lip really wants to go to the carnival. "You sure? I'm fine with staying."

"Yeah. You should just go." Lip walks into the room, putting a hand on his son's shoulder and giving him a smile. "We can entertain ourselves."

As they get downstairs, Lip is standing with Alyosha while holding Jesse as they say their goodbyes to the large group. The father and son watch as they get into the large car before driving away. Once they're gone, Lip looks back at the silent boy.

"We can do anything you want. Had anything in mind?"

Arriving at the carnival at noon, they get out of the car and walk toward the event. Everyone is looking forward to spending some time there—except for one person.

"I want to go to the movies."

"Kate, we already went to the movies." Y/N responds.

Kate scoffs. "Yeah, once. I still haven't watched the Barbie movie!"

"That's because we didn't want to see that faggy shit." Mikhail comments, causing Kate to glare. "And that was a year ago."

"Yeah, and I still haven't seen it, since I'm in a household full of men!"

Lyn frowns. "I hope you're developing early signs of dementia."

Y/N sighs. "We're not all going just because you want to see one movie when we already have plans."

"Then how about I go with her?" Mandy suggests, causing Kate to smile happily.

"If you want, sure."

"Thanks!" Kate quickly looks grateful at Mandy. "This is why you're my best friend!"

And thus, the two girls leave the group, leaving one father, one uncle, and four children behind. Together, they enter the rows of stalls, with everyone a bit overwhelmed by how much there is to do.

"I want to go on the giant attraction!" Maksim yells.

"I want to go to the bumper cars!" Fred shouts excitedly as well.
