Ch 55. Cherry Lips

Sitting in a big crowd on a sunny day, Y/N happily waits for the moment Lip finally gets his degree. Not only is he at the graduation ceremony, but so is the entire Gallagher household. Carl even came back from school to join the event. With the children back home, the father's full attention is on his fiancé.

As one by one the graduates are called to receive their degrees, the family chats among themselves.

"You better record everything."

"I already am!" Ian responds to Y/N with slight annoyance. "Stop telling me."

"Just look how happy he is."

Y/N can't help but smile widely as he keeps his eyes on his partner, who's standing with his classmates. The blonde smirks now and then, glancing back at his family while wearing the graduation gown and cap.

Fiona finds it a bit off-putting how cheerful Y/N is. "You're way too happy."

"Helps that he's getting married." Debbie comments.

"Wait, you're getting married again?" Carl asks. "How much do I miss while I'm gone?"

"A lot." Liam replies casually.

"Everyone, shut the fuck up!" Y/N quickly orders, having a gut feeling that Lip's name is next.

The announcer on the podium looks at the list of graduates and speaks into the mic. "Phillip Gallagher."

With claps and cheering, the Gallaghers smile widely as Lip walks up to the stage to receive his degree. After shaking hands with the presenter, he takes his diploma and turns to face the crowd, giving a short speech like the rest of his classmates.

"So—uhm—I finally got my degree—"

"Yeah!"

Lip is taken aback when Y/N suddenly cheers for him.

"I'm glad that I not only proved to myself that I could do this." He continues. "But also to the people I love. It's thanks to my family that I'm here. So... I want to thank my brothers, my sisters, and my fiancé."

As Lip receives applause from the crowd, Y/N stands up and cheers the loudest, earning several odd looks from his in-laws.

"I love you!" He shouts.

As Lip walks off the stage, he glances back at his fiancé. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he quickly looks away.

"I'm proud of you!" Y/N calls again, his voice filled with pride.

"Why couldn't you just shut up?" Lip complains.

As the family walks back to the parking lot, Lip has taken off his graduation gown and holds it along with his official degree. Although happy, he certainly didn't expect Y/N to be so loud and cheerful.

"I'm just happy." Y/N puts his arm around his fiancé and kisses his head. He then grabs the degree with his other hand, looking it over. "I'm going to have a husband with a degree-ee."

"I miss when you used to act like a robot." Debbie mutters.

"Just wait until he gets married." Ian warns her.

Once they arrive at the parking lot, Fiona heads toward her car while everyone else walks to Y/N's. However, the tall man doesn't open the door right away—instead, he looks back at the others.

"How about you all go with Fiona?"

"Seriously?" Ian, like the rest, doesn't seem amused. "Again?"

"It's better not to ask about it." Lip says flatly, though he doesn't exactly mind the benefits of Y/N being overly happy.
