Remus reached Delphini just as she sank away. He felt her body go completely limp beneath his hands as he tried to pull her upright, but the moment he saw the blood running down both of her legs and the ragged, uneven breaths struggling out of her lungs, he stopped trying to move her and lowered her carefully onto the grass. He lifted her head into his lap instead, one hand supporting the back of her neck while the other hovered uselessly over the injuries, as though he couldn't decide which one needed his attention first.
Her face was frighteningly pale, and a large bruise had already begun spreading across the side of her face where she had struck the protective charm. There was a cut near her eyebrow, blood tangled through her hair, and the bruising around her throat was unmistakable. Remus's stomach twisted when he noticed the angle of her leg, and for a moment he could do nothing except stare at her.
Then training took over.
He raised his wand and whispered, "Lumos."
The soft light illuminated Delphini's face as Remus carefully moved it across her eyes, watching her pupils for any response. They contracted, but only barely, and the relief he felt was immediately swallowed by the realization of how close that response had been to nothing at all.
R: "She's alive."
Arthur and Kingsley came running across the field moments later, both of them looking toward Remus before immediately looking down at the unconscious girl in his arms.
K: "What happened?"
Remus barely looked up as he continued watching Delphini's breathing.
R: "I don't know. She was already like this when I reached her."
Arthur dropped beside them and opened the first-aid kit, pulling out bandages and other supplies with shaking hands. He started examining the wounds while Kingsley stood nearby, his eyes moving between Delphini and the distant Burrow.
For several seconds, none of them spoke.
Then Arthur's expression hardened.
A: "We can't just take her inside."
Remus finally looked at him.
R: "Why not?"
Arthur hesitated, clearly uncomfortable with the question.
A: "Remus, look at her. She's Voldemort's daughter."
Kingsley nodded slowly, his face troubled.
K: "And Bellatrix's."
Remus's jaw tightened.
K: "We don't know what she might have done tonight. We don't know what she told them, what she was ordered to do, or whether she could be carrying some kind of tracking charm."
Remus stared at both men as though they had completely lost their minds.
R: "She's unconscious."
K: "That doesn't mean she's harmless."
R: "No, it means she's injured."
Arthur looked down at Delphini again.
