Chapter 19
Haley’s POV
Me and Kayla starting talking a lot about our lives before we were taken. We didn’t really want to sleep; I don’t think we even could, knowing that our whole lives would change just because of this day. I knew that we had a lot in common; we were teenage girls for crying out loud. Boys. That’s the one thing that didn’t come up yet, but I knew we were going to get to it sooner or later.
“So what was your family like?” she asked me
“Ummm… my parents were killed in a car accident when I was two, I live with my grandma until she died, and then I moved in with my boyfriend.” I said lowering my head
“Oh. Sorry I didn’t know.” She said her voice lowering
“It’s okay. So did you have any boyfriends?” I asked her
“I was taken when I was seven, so I didn’t really get into the dating scene.” She said chuckling.
“Ahh. Boys aren’t worth it anyways.” I said poking the fire with a spare stick
“Oh really so you and Mr. Boyfriend weren’t that close huh?” she said looking at me and grinning.
“No, we were. I loved him, still do. But I haven’t seen him in four years. I don’t know if he’s moved on or not. Or if he even knows what happened to me. I was at a party with a bunch of friends when I was taken. I don’t even think they planned to take me, I guess I just seemed like a good person to turn into a freak.”
“Well we’re freaks together.” She said smiling “We’ll find him. I promise.”
“I hope so. But are we going to be able to just fade in with humanity? Can we go back to our old lives?” I said sighing
“I don’t know.” She whispered “But we have to stay strong. We must keep hope.”
“Yeah.” I said staring into the fire. “Strength and Hope is all we have.”
“And each other.” She said nudging me and I smiled.
