Chapter 28

Sabrina’s POV

The stone said that the experiment center was near Sacramento so it would take a while to get there. When we got near San Diego I saw a Wal-Mart and decided to pull off, it would be nice to get some new clothes.

“Okay everyone grab some clothes and meet me in front to checkout.” I said once everyone had gotten out of their vehicles

I walked into the store and went straight to the women’s department; quickly I grabbed a black V-neck t-shirt and some jeans. I felt a tap on my shoulder so I turned around and saw Steven.

“You okay?” he asked while shifting the jeans and t-shirt he had draped over his arm

“Yeah, why?” I asked walking towards the checkout

“You just seem a little on edge.” He said grabbing the clothes from out of my hands

“I’ll be okay.” I mumbled but a hint of dishonesty came out

“I won’t let anything bad happen to you.” He said grabbing my arm and turning me around “I promise you.”

I nodded and turned back around to gather everyone’s stuff, but I felt Steven’s eyes on me, I didn’t mind it but it felt like he was trying to protect me. This guy who didn’t even know my power, let alone my real name cared about me so much that he was protecting me and I didn’t mind.

After I bought everyone’s clothes I went into the bathroom to change and when I came out we hoped back into the car and I started up the engine. I turned towards Steven and sighed.

“My real name is Rose.” I told him “I changed it when I escaped.”

He looked at me and sighed “I like Sabrina better.” He said with a smirk

“Me too.” I said pulling out of m parking space. “I never told you what my power was.”

He looked at me and smiled “No you didn’t.”

“Make anything you want out of ice.” I said pulling up to the first red light “No questions yet.”

He put his hand by the dash board and I saw some mist form around it, when he raised his hand there was an ice sunflower sitting on the dashboard.

“Watch it closely.” I said concentrating on it and I watched as it disappeared into thin air

“So… Invisibility?” he asked as I lost my concentration as the light turned green and the sunflower re-appeared  

“And forcefields.” I replied pushing my foot down on the gas pedal

Over the rev of my engine I heard police sirens and I quickly pulled to the side of the road. Josh and Brett did the same behind me.

Overhead I heard what sounded like a helicopter or airplane. I looked up to see two helicopters chasing a girl flying through the air and she had… wings?

Josh came over to me running. “Do we want to help her?” he asked me looking up at the sky

“Do we want to get involved with the police?” I asked him

He sighed and looked at me “I hope she survives.” And with that we drove off
