Chapter 37

Kayla’s POV

I felt the minds all around me. It was getting easier to send messages. I just wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Pulling back, I finished my message and returned to my own mind, shuddering slightly as I opened my eyes.

"It was easier this time." I whispered to Haley. She blinked at me with large eyes.

"That's a good thing, right?" She asked. I shrugged and stood up, brushing off the dirt on my clothes. I then turned to Glen.

"We've got two days. what should we do?" I asked. Glen shrugged.

"You're the leader. Lead away." He replied. I frowned, thinking. My feet formed a mind of their own and I began to pace.

"We need a place to stay. Just temporarily. And money. We won't be able to do much without money." I mumbled, thinking out loud.

"Why don't you just posses someone and get them to fork over a few hundreds?" Glen asked. I glared at him.

"You already know I'm not going to do that." I replied. Glen shrugged.

"Just sayin'. It's an option." I shook my head and continued pacing.

"We could stay at the park. Homeless people do it all the time." Haley suggested.

"Are you calling us hobos?" Glen demanded to know.

"Until we actually get ourselves a life, Glen, that's exactly what we are." I replied. Pausing in my pacing, I looked over at Haley.

"I guess the park will do fine...for now. And if it gets too bad..." I cut off that sentence, staring at the ground.

"And if it gets too bad?" Glen repeated, motioning for me to continue. I glared at him.

"If it gets too bad, I'll do what I have to do." I finished. Glen smirked, knowing exactly what I meant.

"What will we do for money?" Haley asked. I shrugged.

"I don't know. It's not like we can get a job." I replied.

"You girls could become prostitutes." Glen suggested. Haley gasped and my eyes widened in horror.

My hand moved to slap Glen's face, but he caught my wrist mid-air. "You should see the look on your face." He chuckled.

Gritting my teeth, I swung my leg and kicked him in the shin. Glen yelped and released my wrist, doubling over to grab his knee.

"Mind out of the gutter, Glen." I ordered. Glen glared up at me.

Smirking, I stuck my tongue out at him. Glen muttered something that sounded oddly similar to a five-letter "B" word. Sighing, I stared at the ground.

"I guess we just have to wait and hope that whoever comes for us has got a few twenties to spare." I said.

Glen straitened up, favoring the knee I had kicked. That would be a problem if we had to run. I hoped he could keep up.

"Is that what we're living off of now? Hope?" Glen asked.

Looking up, I stared into his eyes. "Right now, Glen, Hope is all we have..."
