Chapter 38

Sabrina’s POV

“Wait a park?” Janelle asked who had just woken from her what seemed like forever nap

“That’s what the STONE says…” I replied taking another look just to make sure

“Why would they stay in a park?” Steven asked scratching his head

“Where would you stay if you don’t have any money, no one has seen you for years and there’s a bunch of people chasing you?” I asked chuckling

Steven sighed and did the yawn, stretch, put his arm around me thing.

“Really?” I asked trying to keep my eyes on the road, he automatically pulled back

“Oooooooo Sabrina and Steven sitting in a tree...” Janelle began

“Shut it.” I demanded turning the radio up, but I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks and Steven just chuckled

“Let’s get this clear,” I started “I had bad experiences with men..”

“Mark?” Steven asked his eyes shifting over to me

I tried really hard not to have the memories flood back quickly, I just swallowed and nodded. It hurt me too much to talk about it.

“You want to tell me about it?” he asked putting his hand on top of mine that was resting on the gear shift

“Not really.” I mumbled “Let’s just say I don’t like him.”

Silence filled the Jeep as I stopped at a stop sign. “Almost there.” I whispered

“How are we going to know which people are the ones who sent the message?” Steven asked

“It’s like geocatching…” I said looking at him “and you’ve never been geocatching before…”

“How’d you guess?” he chuckled

“Just figured…” I laughed “We’ll find them.”

I smiled and interlocked my fingers with Stevens. I saw him smile and Janelle go on singing her song again.

“What’d I say?” I asked as I pulled into the parking lot of the gigantic park.

Haley’s POV

“Oh yay, home sweet park.” Glen said sarcastically as Kayla laid down under the giant gazebo

“Deal with it.” I said walking to sit next to her

“I guess I got guard duty.” Glen sighed, sitting down against a pole

“Hey there’s a bunch of cars pulling in…” he said standing up “Could that be some people?”

“Yeah Glen, just go marching over there and ask if they’re looking for a bunch of experiments that escaped from a secret government lab…” Kayla said sarcastically

I got up to stand and looked at Kayla. “What if they are looking for us?” I asked

“I don’t know…” Kayla said “it sounds risky.”

I looked over to the cars and a bunch of people started to unload from the two jeeps and a van. There was one girl who had a weird cell phone looking thing in her hand who looked like she was leading the group. I saw her look over to me and looked directly at me.

“I think they are…” I whispered

I started to jog down the stairs towards the one girl, but I heard Kayla calling after me. If this was my chance to a normal life, I wasn’t it slip by, not after what I’ve been through.
