Chapter 42

Kayla’s POV

I sat down on the lumpy, stiff motel bed. Haley sat down next to me, staring strait ahead. The other girls we were sharing the room with, Stephanie and Bridget, sat on the bed across from us. we both stared at each other, sizing each other up.

"I have a feeling this is going to get really awkward, really fast." Haley whispered.

I nodded in reply. Slowly standing up, I moved around the room. three pairs of eyes watched me, judging my next move. I walked over to the clock and checked the time. It was getting late. about 10:00. Turning to Bridget and Stephanie, I let out a sigh.

"Look, we could spend all night sitting here, staring at each other or we could try to get some sleep." I said.

"Nuh-uh. I ain’t sleeping with you around." Bridget replied. I let out a small smile.

"Why, you scared?" I asked.

"No!" Stephanie shot back, though she looked unsure.

"Look. I'm not going to posses you in your sleep or anything like that." I assured her.

"How do we know you're not lying?" Bridget asked. I opened my mouth to respond when there was a knock at the door.

"Hold that thought." I said, walking over to the door.

I opened it and revealed a tall, muscular man standing on the other side.I barely had time to react before he reached through the doorway and grabbed me around the throat.

"Kayla!" I heard Haley scream. I dug my nails into the guy's arm and kicked him where it counted. He doubled over, releasing my neck.

"Haley, get Bridget and Stephanie out of here!" I ordered.

 "What about you?" Haley asked.

"Just go!" I ordered, stepping into the hallway.

They could probably escape out the window. But right now, I had to take care of the jolly red-in-the-face giant. The guy had by now recovered from his little episode and towered over me. Dodging his grabbing hands, I ran. Come on, chase me. Chase me! I urged silently in my head. Fortunately, he did. Unfortunately, he was fast. Too fast. He caught up with me quickly and grabbed me, swinging me into the nearest door. The door cracked under my weight and I fell through, landing heavily on the other side. I winced and looked up into the face of a smirking Glen.

"I told you to treat the room service with more respect." Glen said.

"Shut up!" I shot back, leaping up. I glanced around the room to see the surprised faces of Brett, Josh, and Nick. The giant man lumbered into the doorway and cracked his knuckles.

"Wow. You really know how to pick your fights." Glen commented.

"Shut up, Glen and cover me! Josh, Nick, Go to Room 136 and get them out! Brett, you cover for Glen." I ordered.

Josh and Nick looked ready to argue until I shot them my famous, "you-had-better-do-as-your-told-or-I-will-make-you" looks. Making a run for the door, Glen, Brett, and I stood to face the giant.

"You wanted a fight Glen? Well, I hope you're ready for one." I mumbled. Then the giant charged...
