Haley’s POV
I was very confused as I started to slip into my sleep. Why did he stutter like that? Was it such a big deal that we all had powers? Or maybe he didn’t have a power. Maybe the mutation didn’t do anything to him. But then they would have disposed of him. Wouldn’t they?
So many things raced through my head as I tried to sleep. Quickly I opened my eyes a tiny bit to see if anyone was up to anything, but it was pitch black.
“Kayla?” I whispered hoping she didn’t fall asleep on her guard duty
“Huh?” she whispered back, and I could tell she was really tired but there was something else in her voice
“Do you think there is something weird about him?” I asked quietly and I prayed he was asleep
“Yeah, I do.” She said almost immediately
“Is that’s what’s on your mind?” I whispered
“That’s not the major issue.” I heard her say, but I could tell she was lying
“Do you want me to take guard duty?” I asked her changing the subject
“Nah, I’m good.” She said under her breath “Go back to sleep.”
“Thank you.” I said
“For what?” she asked confused
“For everything.” I said and I closed my eyes and drifted back into sleep
