It was for Ashton's best sake.
That's what Liam kept telling himself in order to feel better with what he was about to do.
Ashton was already ready for work when Liam suggested him to drink a glass of water and insisted when Ashton said he wasn't thirsty. He hoped he won't feel the taste of the pill he mashed and put in his water.Today was the day and he wanted Ashton to stay in their place and sleep.
"Don't you have to go?" Ashton looked at him.
"Yeah, yeah I'm leaving." Liam snapped from his daze.
"Liam?"
"Yeah?"
"Can't you feel it?" Ashton's big eyes stared at him with a light frown.
"Feel what?" Liam stood straight and still and then felt the floor shaking lightly. They were in the fourth floor and Liam knew right away that their building is under attack. He didn't think it will happen this fast and his mind went blank for a second.
He tackled Ashton to the ground and laid on top of him as they both felt everything around them starting to shake harder and watched things starting to fall. Liam pulled Ashton to the bedroom and pushed his own bed aside, revealing an unfinished tunnel.
"What the hell?" Ashton muttered as his lips parted.
"I thought I will have more time." Liam yelled over the loud noise that surrounded them now.
Ashton's eyes grow bigger and panic formed in them, he pulled away from Liam and stared at the door.
"Ashton get in!" Liam yelled over the noise again.
"I'm not leaving without my parents!"
"You have no choice!"
Befor Liam could stop him, Ashton ran out of the room and tried getting to the front door, but the ground was shaking and the pill Liam put in his drink started working. His head spinned and he forced himself to keep going but he was slower and Liam reached him easily.
He pulled him back to the bedroom and Ashton felt how his body turned too numb to resist Liam's actions.
He hated Liam at that moment, he hated him for forcing him to leave his parents behind.
Liam led him down the tunnel and kept pushing him forward but it was hard because Ashton may have stopped resisting, but he put all of his body waight on Liam, trying to stop him.
"Come on Ashton," Liam hissed.
Liam kept dragging him until they reached the end of the tunnel and Liam released Ashton, the ground above their heads was shaking and Ashton used the little energy he had to sit and lean back on the tunnel wall. Liam used his hands and started digging the little he had left. He only started the tunnel in case something like that will happen, they attacked early then he thought and he figure that they might do that. He planned to make Ashton skip work that day and have them both leaving from the other side of the walls, where Liam is always using the west wall when he needs to go outside.
Ashton looked at Liam and then back to the where they came from and just fought the urge to cry. His entire life is back there and he couldn't imagine being without his parents. His heart kept telling him to crawl back and try befor it'll be too late, but his body was too heavy to listen.
He was interrupted from his thoughts when a strong sunlight hit his eyes, making him blink."Let's go Ashton," Liam reached his hand out for Ashton to take but Ashton looked away and refused to take his hand. Liam sighed befor wrapping his arms around Ashton's waist and pulling him out.
Ashton couldn't bring himself to look at Liam's face, especially when he wasn't able to punch him.
They got out of the tunnel and both took a deep breath when they were met with the fresh air. They were both covered with dirt and looked like a mess.
Liam released him and let Ashton rest for a bit.
Ashton stared at the blue sky and then closed his eyes.
Unable to focus or think right.
****
He woke up from his deep slumber feeling a lot better. He felt his body again and he managed to pull himself to sit straight.
He looked aside to find Liam sitting on a fallen tree and messing with a knife between his fingers.
"Why did you do that?" Ashton whispered.
"I had to. It was either running or dying."
"You left my parents to die." Ashton frowned with tears visible in his eyes.
"Ashton."
"I hate you." Ashton looked away and sanked his teeth harshly in his bottom lip, trying to hold back the sob.
"I'm doing this for you."
"I don't fucking want this!" Ashton raised his voice.
"You're just mad right now, give it a few day-"
"A few days to process we left all of our family and friends to die?" Ashton stood up and glared daggeres at Liam, but tears still formed in his eyes.
He turned around and started walking away from him, not bothering he heard Liam's foothsteps behind him.
"Ashton."
"Leave me alone."
"You're mad now, but you'll thank me later for giving you a chance to live."
"Life isn't worth living if I'm left alone!"
"The whole human race might of died back there! I don't want to be the only human in this world!" Ashton turned to yell at him.
"Look-"
"Stop! I don't want to hear you!"
Ashton turned around and started running away from him, but Liam was faster because Ashton was still undr the affections of the pills and he couldn't bring himself to focuse and run straight, a thing that worked for Liam's advantage.
"Ashton, just go to sleep a bit more okay? You'll feel better."
"You have no idea what you're saying don't you?" Ashton fell on his knees infront of Liam, who stopped him by blocking him the road, and then leaned aside and collapsed.
Liam sat beside him and closed his eyes with a sigh. Ashton didn't know but it was just the begining for him. Lian couldn't stay with him, he was about to leave him and let him get along by himself for a few days. He was planning on telling Ashton that he wasn't human befor leaving him, hoping it will help him in those few days.
He never wanted Ashton to die, he saved him back there but there wasn't much he could have done now. He had to find his father and taking Ashton will risk him more then leaving him in the woods for a few days.
Ashton wasn't human, and if he will learn how to work with that, he will live many more years.
