Ashton was able to leave because Luke's blood was no longer in his system but Luke had a hard time letting him go. Everytime Ashton was close to him he could smell the different, addicting blood that ran in his veins and it drived him crazy.
He bite him in his sleep three times and he still couldn't get enough.
Ashton sat outside and played with small strands of grass. He felt the burning sensation again and he could feel the way he made the grass hot as well. He put a little more effort and then watched how a small flame burned a strand of grass. He couldn't beileve it was really him and not Luke's blood.
He didn't want to beileve it.
He was scared to die, despite the way he talked and acted, he was scared to die and even more to die suffering.
But he couldn't bare the pain of knowing his family was no longer alive. He couldn't bring himself to imagine a life without seeing them ever again or having the hope to see them somewhere in the future.
And he hated the cruelty of the creatures outside. He knew even if he will get strong enough, he won't want to live among them.
"Who killed all the humans?" Ashton asked when he felt Luke walking behind him.
"What?"
"Who planned this? Vampires? Werewolves? Witches?"
"Mostly vampires." Luke replied.
"Why?"
"You were all a burden."
"Why? All you had to do was to leave us alone."
"You really don't know much, do you?"
"Know what?" Ashton turned and looked up at him.
"It doesn't matter now,"
"Tell me."
"There's no point."
"So what are you going to do now? How will you all drink blood?"
"Don't worry about that." Luke muttered. There were other ways to drink blood and human's blood wasn't the only one who felt tasty.
Ashton stayed silent and kept messing with the grass while having the rest of his thoughts to himself.
"Ashton!" His father screamed loudly as he left their small yard and walked around in the neighborhood.
"Ashton!"
His heart was beating like crazy and he couldn't seem to think straight. His mind was already filled with bad things that could have happened to his son. Its been an hour since Ashton left the house but it was enough time to get his parents worry.
He kept looking until it started raining and he was soaked with water, not knowing where else to look for.
He hoped the rain will give Ashton a sign to come back home.
After two hours of looking, he came back to their house but there was no one there beside Mary, Ashton's mom.
"You didn't find him?" Her panicked voice brought more panic to her husband.
"I looked everywhere, I don't know what else-"
"Go take a shower, I'll go for another round." She went to grab her thin coat but her husband stopped her.
"You stay here incase he will come back, I will go again-" He was cut off when the front door opened and a very soaked Ashton came in.
He waited for the rain to stop but when he saw it was only going to be worse and a storm was coming, he ran home in the rain because he knew his parents are probably waiting and mad."Where were you?" Ben raised his voice.
"I-I didn't noticed the time and the rain wouldn't stop-"
"Its okay baby just-" his mom started.
"No its not okay! Do you know how worried you made us?"
Ashton stayed silent and his mother couldn't help but to give up to the sight of her son soaked with water.
"Go to a shower, we'll talk about this after." She spoke soflty and placed her palm on Ben's shoulder, calming him from his anger.
Ashton left to take a shower while his father shoke his head with reliefe.
"You can't just give him free pass-"
"Ben he's eight, you cant expect an eight years old to stay alerted and careful-"
"That's our lives. This is what he is going to grow into,"
"Still, maybe when he's older."
"Just.. don't let him go outside without you anymore."
"Okay." She nodded.
