n.h: Last Days
"You what?" Harry demanded. He didn't seem to believe me, which was weird because why would I lie about dying. "Hold on, start over." I stared at him.
"From the beginning?" I asked pointing backwards. Harry rolled his eyes.
"No just from that last part." He said motioning for me to continue.
"Okay well.. Siren's sisters were holding me underwater and I was trying not to breathe but I did. I was drowning and Siren appeared and screamed."
"There. Okay, she screamed. What did she say?"
"She just screamed." I shrugged. "Nothing to it but her sisters acted as if they had just been shot or something. It was weird." Harry pondered this for a minute.
"Maybe they work on a different frequency. Siren probably screamed like that because she knew it would harm them but not you." I nodded my head slowly, glad he was on my side for once. It might have been because I almost died but I was going to take it.
"Yeah, maybe." I paused. I was worried about her. I hadn't heard anything in three days. I didn't know what to make of it, she said she could handle it and I believed her. I just hoped they hadn't done anything awful to her.
----
It was Thursday again. The fifth week since I had first met Siren. No word from her now in nearly five days but I had a good feeling about tonight. In fact, when I finally heard her singing, I was already changed and ready to go. I ran all the way to Lake Erie and listened carefully to the sound of her singing. It was her definitely, I could tell. As I approached the Lake, I was carefully peering through the trees to make sure it was her. She was facing the woods so I didn't have to look very hard.
"Siren!" I exclaimed. She stopped singing and followed the sound of my voice.
"Niall." She smiled. She was still the same. She didn't look hurt or any different. It was still Siren. I ran towards her and she opened her arms for a hug. Grabbing her around the waist, I picked her up and spun her around. Siren laughed, hugging me tightly. "Put me down!" She exclaimed. I placed her on the ground.
"You're okay? You're not hurt?" I questioned looking her up and down.
"I'm fine Niall." She smiled again.
"Well what happened? What did they do? What now? Are they still going to try to kill me." Siren's smile slowly faded. "I.. I'm sorry I didn't mean.."
"It's okay." Siren gestured towards the fallen log which had become our usual sitting place. "My sisters aren't going to try to hurt you anymore."
"How come? Well, I mean, that's great but.. Why? Shouldn't I not know about you guys?" Siren shook her head.
"It doesn't matter. They said no one would believe you anyways." I shrugged. She had a point there. The only person I knew who would believe me was Harry. And of course, all those people who believe in Bigfoot and whatnot.
"So we're safe then."
"Yes. With the time I have left, were safe." I frowned.
"The time you have left?" I repeated. A look of sadness crossed her face.
"I told you Niall. I have to kill and eat a man to stay a Siren. I've been putting it off for years now. This was my last chance. My birthday is coming up soon."
