l.p: Last Will and Testament
"You want to what?" Anderson has been our lawyer for nearly a month now. He's been handling all the legal issues with my fathers sudden death and my sisters. He also wrote up my moms will, though she won't need it anymore but I needed one and when I told him I wanted one drawn up he was confused.
"I need a will or want to write one I guess."
"Liam, I know the death of your sister and father while unwarranted, doesn't mean you're going to drop dead any minute now." I nodded my head.
"I know it just. I've realized how short life is and I know everything I have will go to my mom, I just want to make it a little easier for you in case I do die." He sighed. "Can you do this for me? Please?"
"Of course Liam." He murmured. He was my lawyer after all, I was paying him. He couldn't say no to me.
----
"You're a believer! It's cute really." I pulled my phone out of my pocket with a sigh and put it to my ear.
"What do you want Natalie." She laughed as she walked beside me on my way to my car. I had felt her presence, I was no longer startled by her.
"I'm just saying it's cute that you believe now! Most people take weeks of convincing that they're dying." I paused and glanced down at her.
"Am I not dying for a couple more weeks then?" I demanded. She laughed again.
"Can't tell you that. Sometimes death assigns us to people early to prepare them if they're the stubborn type. You're not a stubborn person."
"So when am I going to bite it?"
"I can't tell you. Come on, you know that." I rolled my eyes and continued walking.
"Honestly, I don't care anymore. As long as my mom loves, I'm fine." Natalie clucked her tongue and shook her head.
"Oh Liam, she won't be fine, don't you know that? She'll be devastated, crushed. She might even die from a broken heart." I wanted to punch her, women or not, reaper or not.
"Natalie, just.. Stop." And then I hung up on her. She continued to walk next to me though and she clearly wasn't done talking.
"Stop what? It's the truth. You'll die and it will be the end of her. I know you're happy that she's alive and well but how long do you think she'll be able to live past your death?" Was she trying to piss me off? Trying to make me loose my mind? I knew she would be hurt but she would live. She would continue living past my death. Everything was going to be fine.
"You can tell yourself that she'll be fine but in reality you know she won't be. Her husband, both her children. No mom should have to bury her children."
"Nobody should have to bury anybody." I hissed. Natalie smiled at having been recognized.
"But without death, the world would be chaotic, overcrowded and the earth would wear down, wither and die itself. Then where would humanity be."
"The earth is better off without us anyways."
"Right you are." She touched my arm and I flinched away from her startling a women who was walking past me.
"Sorry." I murmured, my face turning a little red as I continued down the road. My car was in sight. I hurried towards it. When I unlocked it and stepped inside though, Natalie was sitting in the passenger side.
"I like your car by the way. Haven't been in many since, you know, I'm dead but whatever." She shrugged.
"Get out." I muttered, sitting down. Why would she like my car? It was up to par but nothing fancy. I personally wanted something more stylish or a sports car but I didn't have that kind of money.
"Have a safe drive." She smiled before disappearing. Have a safe drive? Was she trying to tell me something? Or was I just over analyzing it? She was a reaper did anything they say have any specific meaning? Probably.
----
"How much of an insurance policy?"
"The largest I can get."
"Well, sir that's whatever you would like?" I smiled at the man across the desk from me.
"Perfect." I wasn't going to leave my mother penniless. She would need people to take care of her, pay off the house, all the medical bills that came from her surgeries, the car, my funeral service. I wasn't going to leave her alone.
"You're really committed to this aren't you. I've never met someone so willing to die." Natalie said appearing in the seat next to mine. I frowned a little when I spotted her.
"There's a lot of paperwork for you to fill out Mr. Payne."
"Then let's get started." I replied with a nod of my head.
"Well, your funeral as they say. Have fun with paperwork." I rolled my eyes at her apparition. I was beginning to think though that I was no longer doing this for my mom but for closure about my death. Maybe this was for me.
