n.h: Ships at Sea

Can Sirens enter peoples dreams? So far, typing that into the Google search engine wasn't doing much. There wasn't much on Sirens to begin with, much less specifics like entering dreams. It was much of the same the information I read and most of it I had already heard from Harry to begin with

Sirens were mythical creatures that sang to attract men and killed them. They were specific to the ocean and some people even believed that they resided in the Bermuda Triangle. I snorted. Well, they were wrong. As far as I could tell, there was one in my back yard of Virginia.

I sighed as I scanned through the same purple highlighted webpages. I had read all the information already. There was nothing new on the subject that had popped up in the past couple of hours. I groaned and rubbed my eyes. They were probably bloodshot. They felt like they were burning from staring at the computer screen.

I had looked up nearly everything I could on Sirens, from all the myths leading from the Odessey to present date, pictures of them, movies and TV shows portraying Sirens and even songs on YouTube. Nothing quite matched the song Siren sang but I guess that was too be expected since she was technically not even supposed to exist.

Sighing, I spun around in my chair and moved away from my desk. I glanced at the clock. Nearly two again and while I didn't have school the next day, Saturday's we're usually when I caught up on my sleep. I sighed. I just couldn't wrap my head around this whole, Siren thing. I had absolutely no idea what to make of it.

That's when I heard the familiar tune. Siren was singing again. Like both times before, I was in a trance. I had to go see her, I had to meet her at Lake Erie. Dressing quickly, I headed downstairs as quietly as I could and went out the front door. I half, ran half walked all the way there.

Siren was wearing a blue dress. Almost like the one I had in my dream the night before. It wasn't as flowy but it did hug her form and when I got there, she was already out of the water. "Siren." I said as soon as I got close. She turned to me and smiled. It looked so genuine. I wanted to believe so badly that it was real, that she was real. That she was just another girl. But she wasn't.

"Hello Niall. I'm really happy to see you again."

"Are you?" It sounded equal parts accusing and hopeful. Siren arched an eyebrow. She looked a little confused. Maybe she senses the bit of hostility I had put into saying that.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" I didn't know what to say at first. Did I come right out with it and say I knew she was a Siren, some mythical creature that wasn't supposed to exist? What if I was wrong. She could laugh at me. But, there were too many hard facts and I had to know the truth.

"Are you a Siren?" She laughed.

"A Siren? Niall, that's my name not an occupation."

"No, I know it is but.. It's a myth. You know, the three Sirens." She didn't reply so I continued, trying to explain myself. "They're supposed to be mythical creatures, something the Greek's made up but you sing, you seem to live at the lake and.. And you have scales. And I had this weird dream last night where you were trying to drown me and it kind of freaked me out and.."

"Whoa, whoa, Niall." Siren said, standing and walking towards me. I stopped and took in a deep breath. I expected her to deny all my allegations, to laugh in my face or to run away because I was crazy but instead, she paused, licked her lips and asked,
