Chapter Twenty Four: a broken boy

Natsu didn't want to be in that city. He really wanted to be alone. He'd get questions about what he did. The faces on all of their faces was fear and worry. He never thought his friends would ever look at him like that.

His chest felt heavy. He was excited to finally use a curse on somebody but, when he saw Jura laying there, motionless. It scared him. He's still alive but, it was a close one. He'd never forgive himself if he actually killed someone. That's not who he was.... Or is it? The council was probably freaking out because he.... He is..... It hurt Natsu to think about himself. The real him. This Natsu was fake. One that Igneel had made.

"Natsu...." He knew that voice. It was gramps.

He turned around and looked at him. The dragon slayer then burst into tears. Knotting his hair in his hands.

"Natsu.... It's okay."

"No.... It's not." He managed to say between sobs, "I'm a monster."

It hurt the master to see Natsu like this. He put a hand on the wizards shoulder, "I know your not. Your a wizard of fairytail."

"I'm not even a wizard, gramps. I'm a demon, remember?"

"Your a wizard."

"No I'm not! I'm a demon. I'm E.N.D. The strongest demon he created. I'm the end of the world. I have all my memories back from the past. I killed so many people... It was all me. Igneel, my own father wanted to kill me once." Natsu was on his knees.

Mavis shows up then and watches, worrying for him.

"Why did you use curse magic?" The sixth master wonders.

"I.... I just... Wanted to show off. I wanted to be strong."

"You are strong. You didn't need demon magic to prove that. You could've took him down without it...."

He cried harder, "I'm sorry."

"It's alright. I'm still very proud of you. You've grown so much. Into a good and pure wizard. I remember when Igneel told me about you. He wanted me to take you in. I was against it at first but, when I found you alone after he left. You were just a child. You were sad he left. You had dreams. All those human emotions. You weren't like a demon."

"But, I'm not really a human. I'm fake. Igneel made me like this. My real self isn't like how I am."

"When Zeref talks about you. It's always about the time before you died. Your dream was to become a dragon slayer but, only if Igneel raised you. Your personality then was no different then now. I think this is who you really are. A young dragon slayer who fights for what he believes in and cares about his family. I never in my whole seen anyone so selfless as you."

Natsu turns to look at him. His eyes were red from crying. His face wet, "I don't want to be a demon."

Master ruffles his hair, "I know Natsu. I know."

"It hurts so much...."

"I know...."

"I'm so scared. I don't want E.N.D to be awakened."

"How can we help you?" Mavis says.

"I don't know.... I'm not sure of anything anymore. I'm so scared of the guild finding out who I am and now that Zeref is here. It's so hard to keep it hidden."

"Would you like him to leave?" Gramps asks.

"No.... He's my brother. I want him in this guild. Even though he made me into a demon and every time I look at him, I'm reminded of it. I don't want him to go. Do you?"

"No, he's family now. A fairytail member. I was really unsure of him being here because, I thought he'd be a bad influence. He cares about you. I think he feels that making you into a demon was a mistake. It probably hurts him to see you suffer. He has been sitting in the hotel room by himself all night."

"I should go back...."

"Everyone is here for you even if you can't tell them the truth."

Natsu starts to get up but, he's a little dizzy, "that spell took a lot out of me."

"Natsu, can you promise me something."

"About what?"

"Can you promise me, to never use curse magic again?"

Natsu nods, "I promise."

They walk back to the guild. When Natsu walks inside everyone hovers around him and gives him a huge group hug.

"We were so worried about you!" Mira says

Then Lucy comes walking up to him and smiles at him warmly. He could t help but smile back at the girl he loved. She hugged him tightly and shed some tears, "I was so worried. I love you, Natsu."

He wraps his arms around her. Squeezing her, "I love you too."

Then he sees Zeref. His brother. His eyes were red from crying. He let Lucy go and hugged him. He dug his hands in the back of his brother jacket. Zeref knew what Natsu was thinking and he felt so much guilt.
