Chapter Thirty Six: a new temperary home

The machine stops suddenly and everyone gets up. The doors open and the place looked familiar. Lucy has been here before. It was Edolas.

Everyone walked out confused. No one seems to know why they were here and some didn't know what the place was. She saw the tartaros demon Jackel walking among everyone.

'Why couldn't he have stayed there?' She thinks. Then the horrible memory of Natsu comes to her mind. Reminding her of her loss. Her heart clenched, skipping beats as it was being consumed with pain. She looked down and cried. She felt a soft hand grab hers. It was Mavis. She squeezed it to somehow make her feel better.

Then she saw saw Mistogan. Leading them to the kingdom.

"Hey Lucy," he said.

She couldn't speak so she just nods. She didn't even know if she could even smile. Everything hurt to much but, she was numb at the same time.

They reached a building full of survivors. Everyone was at tables talking and eating. She saw the rest of fairytail waiting for their return.

She say lisanna and Mira crying as they walked out the room. 'No....' She knew then elfman wasn't here and they were the last to get here. Romeo sat on the ground curled up crying over his father.

She wondered how many Wizards lost their lives. It hurt her to see everyone else in despair over their lost ones.

Lucy sits down. Her legs were becoming wobbly. Natsu turning in E.N.D kept replaying in her head and when the explosion went off and consumed the earth. She will never forget it.... That moment was when she really lost him.

Each person had their own room. Lucy walked into hers and laid down on the bed. More tears fell. She couldn't stop and she wonders if it ever would.

She came down to eat with everyone else. She sat next to Erza and Jellal. Erza looked at Lucy with worry and grabbed her hand. She didn't know what to say so they stayed like that.

Then Lucy saw him. She stood up fast and ran to him. "Natsu!" She yelled with tears streaming fast down her cheeks.

He looked at her confused as she hugged him but, he didn't smell like Natsu. Her heart sunk as she realized. This wasn't her Natsu. It was the Edolas version. She let go quickly and ran away from him, from everyone, from everything.

She slammed herself on her bed and sobbed even more. Her eyes stung from so much crying. Her face raw. She clutched at her chest as pain took over her. Her heart was broken.

Then she hears a knock at the door.

"Go away!" She told them.

"Please I need to tell you something." It was Mavis.

Lucy got up and opened it, "what is it?"

She walks in and sits down on the mattress, "I didn't want to tell you this and give you false hope or something... When the battle was going on between those two. I put a spell on them both, to protect them."

"So... They are alive?" Her heart lifted with hope.

"I don't know. That magic was powerful. I could've overpowered mine. There's like only a ten percent chance it worked."

"We have to go back! We need to find them!" Lucy was going to leave out the door.

"Lucy, we can't. The whole world is still on fire."

"But, we have to save them then."

"We wouldn't survive."

"Then how long do we have to wait? I can't any longer if he's still alive out there."

Mavis starts sniffling, "I don't know how long. Maybe a week or two?"

"That long....?"

"I'm sorry. It's hard for me too."

"Does anyone else know? What about Mira and lisanna? They would like to have hope to see if their brother is okay."

"He died before the blast from Natsu. He jumps in front of Acnologia attack and pushed them away from it to save them."

"Oh.... Who else lost their lives?"

"Yukino of Sabertooth died and Sherria of Lumia scale. The godslayer. She was just a little girl... There was a lot lost. We only managed to save only fifteen percent of the population."

"Did you plan this Mavis?"

"Carla came up to me and told me about a vision she had with all of us dying from E.N.D.... She planned all this. She told Natsu the plan. He accepted."

"What did he accept?"

"If we left long before the battle to be saved. Zeref and his army would've took over the world. Natsu had to defeat him and the army. Natsu knew all along he was E.N.D. Ever since that job you guys took when he talked to Zeref. He knew his fate and he accepted it. He was to turn into the demon. He sacrificed himself to save us."

Lucy was shaking, "why... Why didn't he tell me?"

"He thought you'd fear him or not love him anymore. He wanted you to be happy and believe in him to save you like he always would."

Lucy falls to her knees. Water from her eyes leaking through her hands on her face.
