Chapter Four: research

"Ahh... Finally back home...." Lucy puts her arms up, hands behind her head, smiling.

"How did the job go?" The master asked.

Every one of them frowned.

"It wasn't what we thought. We couldn't offer any help. It was too late." Erza said.

Makarov looked down and closed his eyes, "who did it?"

"Natsu found Zeref there and we found a big group of demons too." Grey stated.

"Of course. I can't wait till this is all over. For everyone to be safe." Sixth master says. He looks over at Natsu. He  was thinking intently which was odd of him to do, "what's on your mind Natsu?"

"Zeref... Me and him talked for a bit but, he wasn't making much sense."

The master felt a sting of fear. 'What all did Zeref tell you?' He thought to himself. 'Igneel, I promised I'll keep Natsu safe.... I never wanted this day to come. I'm worried for him.'

"I'm so hungry! I need to eat!" Natsu exclaimed.

"You're always hungry flame brain!" Grey shouts.

"Do you want to go ice princess? I'll beat you for sure!"

They butt their foreheads together.

"Natsu! Grey! Are you two really going to fight?!" Erza yelled at the two young wizards.

"Ahh! No ma'am!" The said in unison.

Lucy laughs at her three friends. 'I hope this never ends. This is what makes a part of fairytail. I'm so lucky." She smiles at Natsu for a while, not really realizing what she was doing.

"Uh... Lucy you okay?" Natsu says.

"What?! Yea I'm okay. Don't look at me like that!" She kicks him so he falls onto the floor. Her cheeks slightly blush.

"Jeez, you were the one looking at me." He scratches through his pink hair.

"Doesn't matter!" Lucy storms off but smiles as she walking away from the dragon slayer.

Natsu spots Levi in the main hall with Gajeel. He kind of stands there awkwardly waiting to get a chance to talk to her.

"What the hell do you want?" It was Gajeel.

"Nothing, just need to talk to Levi about something." He answers.

"Me? Why?" Natsu never really talked to Levi much.

"I'll tell you when he leaves."

"You can just say it!" Gajeel shouts at him.

Levi blushes but, finally says. "It's ok. I'll talk to you Natsu. I'll find you in a bit Gajeel." She plants a small kiss on his cheek.

The iron dragon slayer leaves them to themselves.

"So, what is this about Natsu?" Levi asks.

Natsu shifts around nervously, "can we actually go into a room that's more private?"

Levi's eyes grow big, "yeah, sure."

Lucy is sitting at the table with grey and Erza, watching Natsu talk to Levi about something. They leave then to wherever. Lucy thinks all the sudden she feels a shock of jealously but tries to push it away. It was silly.

Natsu leaves with Levi to her place. When they get there, her apartment is covered with scattered books.

"Wow, what are all these books about?"

"A little bit a everything actually. Some date back four hundred years ago to now."

"Four hundred years ago..." Natsu gets lost in a train of thought about what Zeref said.

"So what do you need?"

"I just... Um.... I wanted you to research more on Zeref and his demon E.N.D," he says nervously.

"Well, I already looked through a bunch. I don't know what more I can find."

"Please try to find more. I can help if that's what it takes."

"Hmmm... Well, we could go to the library look into the history of back then. We might be able to find out more."

"Sounds good to me."

"Natsu.... Are you feeling okay? You're seem really serious, it's not like you. Is there a reason you want to look more into it?"

"I just want to know everything. The more I know, the more I can defeat Zeref, if that makes sense."

"I guess it does. Well let's get to work then."

They leave the library. Levi finds a few books that could have potential. The fire Mage is still looking around but, stops fast when he spots a book that could answer his questions.

"Dragneel...." His last name. 'Could that be Zeref's name too?' He grabs it. Looking at that book scared him. He was hoping the black wizard was just playing with him. What he was saying seemed impossible. "Here goes nothing..."

'Natsu at the library? What kind of joke is this?' Grey thinks as he watches his rival grab a mysterious book.

Levi comes up to him and shows him her books as she looks at what he found.

"Dragneel? Family history?" Levi asks.

Natsu nods yes, "I'm thinking so."

"You want to learn about Zeref though?"

"I do... But this just seemed interesting. It'd be nice to know my family history."

"Well, let's get reading. You know how to right?"

"Really? I'm not dumb." He scoffs

They laugh together and sit down a table. Levi slips on her glasses to help her read faster and process everything better."

They begin by looking through her books she got. There was a lot about Zeref but nothing about E.N.D but, apparently he did have younger brother who happened to die at a really young age.

'That part Zeref told was true....' It sent shivers down Natsu's spine.
