Chapter Two: an empty town

"Here we are," Erza says while pulling her giant wagon full of suitcases.

The town was small, still had clothes out to dry, food out to be bought, which was getting rotten.

"Wow, its like a ghost town here. Obviously these people didn't just pack up and leave. Everything is still here, untouched. Where is everyone?" Grey wonders.

"We are here to find out. I feel a very powerful magic aura here." Titania states.

"Evil magic," Lucy's says, concerned.

They walk further into the town investigating. They decide to split up.

"Look at all this wasted food," Lucy looks over had Natsu, who is stuffing his face with any food he can get his hands on. "What are u doing! Don't eat that!"

Natsu looks at her, his face full. He shrugs then continues munching.

"Don't you think we should keep looking and not be eating these people's food?"

He swallows a whole apple. "Yeah, you're right, Lucy. I just wanted a quick snack.

"Snack?! That's a snack?! Will I ever get used to you eating like a pig?" She smiles at him. He does his famous grin back at her, which makes her blush slightly.

She starts to walk away when she hears Natsu say something.

"Wait... Hold on."

"What is it?" The way he said it made her worry.

"I smell a very familiar scent.... An enemies..."

Lucy could feel her stomach drop, "who  do... Do you think it is?"

"Don't be scared Luce, I got your back."

"Who is it?!"

He looks at her directly in the eyes, "Zeref..."

Her knees felt weak then, "what should we do?"

He grabs her hand and they run to find a hiding spot. They run into a home, Natsu sets Lucy on a chair, "stay here."

"Where are you going?!"

"I'm going to find Zeref and fight him. We can't wait here like sitting ducks for him to finally wage war with us. I want to defeat him now."

He starts to leave as Lucy grabs his hand, "please come back." She starts to tear up.

He nods as his hand slips out of hers.

'I feel like Zeref is the cause for this town disappearing.' Natsu thinks to himself.

He follows the scent of the dangerous dark Mage. He sees him then sitting on the ground with his head in his hands.

"Natsu..." He says softly.

Natsu gasps but, then turns angry. He steps out to face Zeref.

Zeref looks up at him, "I knew you would come. I really wanted to see you."

The dragon slayers fists burst into flames, ready to attack. "Me too, but only to defeat you!" He lunges at Zeraf, except he stops Natsu midair, pushing him into the ground.

"You're still not strong enough. I wish you were, then this would all be over."

"Then just let me kill you."

The wizard of darkness smiles, "then what fun would that be? Only E.N.D. Can defeat me but, if you ever get strong enough you will be able to too."

Natsu's eyes grew big, "did you just make E.N.D to defeat you?"

"I made all my demons to but, only that one is strong enough."

"Who is E.N.D? It seems like not many people know much about him?"

Zeraf looks at the fire wizard and smiles sweetly, "he was my younger brother."

Natsu gasped shocked at that news, "your brother? Why would you do that to him? I doubt he wanted to become some gross demon!"

"My brother died a fews years after he was born. I wanted to bring him back and the only way to do so was to turn him into etherious. It was so nice to have him back, but it was only for a short while till the dragon Igneel took him away."

"Igneel? He didn't destroy him though."

"You're right... He raised him."

"Raised him...? What does that mean?"

"He supposedly fell for the kid. He took care of him. Taught him dragon slayer magic. Took away his memories of ever being the most feared demon in Foire."

Natsu took a step back, "this must've been before he took me in. What was his name?"

His smile was sinister, "Etherious Natsu Dragneel..."

"Liar!" Natsu made his whole body burst into fire. "You'll pay for that! DRAGON WING ATTACK!" He lunged at the wizard, Zeraf dodging his attack only to disappear.

Natsu pants in rage. 'how could he say that? I'm not related to that monster. Igneel found me and raised me. He's my father.' Natsu was shaking as he walked off to where Lucy is.

He reaches the abandoned house. Lucy and happy is there waiting for him at the door.

"Natsu... What's wrong?" Happy says worried for his friend.

"Nothing..."

Lucy asks, "did you find Zeraf?"

Natsu puts his head down, "I did.., I'm pretty sure Zeref or his demons did this to this town."

"You didn't fight him?"

"I tried but I wasn't fast enough, he disappeared."

Lucy thought that Natsu looked like he was going to fall so she made him sit on one of the living rooms chairs. "What happened exactly, Natsu?"

"I don't want to talk about it. Let's go find Erza and Grey before they get into any trouble."

"What are we going to do about the job?"

"We'll figure it out. We'll find them."

Lucy started to have light tears coming down her face, "what.... What if... If Zeref was the one who caused this.... Do you think the people here are... Are... Dead...."

Natsu puts his hand on her cheek and wipes away one of her tears, "I hope not. We'll find the truth."

"I'm starting to think this job is worth way more than 500,000 jewels." She laughs holding back her quiet sobs.

Natsu barley smiles, "I agree with you on that."

They both get up and walk to find their friends. Happy sits comfortably on Natsu's shoulders.

Lucy stares at her pink haired friend, 'what are you keeping from me?'
