Chapter 27

Truth

I looked at Bella who was still facing the wall, ears still covered while shaking. I felt horrible. I quickly I put the body parts into a bin and set them on fire.

Then I walked over to Bella and gently turned her towards me. She had tears on her face and I felt my heart break seeing her like this. I whipped her tears away and held her face and made a weak smile. To my surprise and relief she didn't push my hands away, instead she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths.

"It's okay. He is gone." I whispered, trying to reassure her. I felt the adrenaline leave my body and I realised how close I was to lose her. The reason of my life. "We should get out of here." I added and she nodded then she tried to stand up, but I refused to let her. For three reasons, first: she shouldn't be standing in this kind of state, second: it would be faster if I carried her, and third: I wanted to.

I let her complain for a few seconds then I picked her up effortlessly. She had one of her arms around my neck, the other one had a grip on my shirt. I saw her glance at the fire in the bin and I gently turned her head so she was facing away from the fire. After she burried her face into my chest, I started to run back to my car. I was running quietly and a little bit faster than a human would be able. But I didn't care, the only thing was in my mind to get Bella away from that place.

When I reached the car I put her gently down on the front seat. While I looked over her I noticed how pale she was and that she was shaking badly. She needed some sugar in her system. Fortunately I remembered that Emmett had left some sweets and some coke at the back of the car. I got them and handed it to Bella. She didn't object and ate them willingly, another sign that she was in shock.
When she was finished she looked much better. She wasn't trembeling anymore and her color started to return.

"Thank you." She whispered and smiled at me. I frowned a little at first in concern but then smiled back.

"Your welcome." Was my simply respond. Then she laughed. For a few seconds I was seriously worried about her mental health or that the attack damaged her brain. But then I realised she was just letting out the stress so I sat back in the driver's seat and waited patiently.

After her laughter died she called Jessica and Angela letting them know that she was okay and safe and she just met an old friend and they were catching up. When that was done we didn't speak, we just stared into the darkness ahead of us. Those few minutes felt like a life time to me because now I had time to think it over what had just happened. Bella will want answers, answers I didn't know how to give.

"Was that a vampire too?" She didn't look at me as she asked and I almot choked on my saliva from suprise.

"Too?"

She nodded and started to talk. "Like the one at the meadow. I know you were the wolf Edward." She said it with an eye roll, like it was no big deal. I on the other hand gulped and looked away but nodded.

I said one world. "How?" But she knew what I was asking.

"Your eyes. It's a really rare color. Also when I looked into your them at the first time and when I looked into them when you were a wolf, I felt the same pull. And I only felt that with you. Though it took a bit of time to figure it out" I let out a shaky breath.

"And how could you still be near me? Talk to me? I am a monster or at least, not human." I asked in a quite voice, waiting for her to ran away screaming.

There was silence for a few seconds and I braced myself. The moment had come, the moment when she finally leaves me. "I don't care." I heard her say and I felt my eyes go wild. "And I could hardly belive that you are a monster. I mean you saved me whenever I was in danger. If you wanted to hurt me you would have already have." I looked into her eyes, seeing that she truly meant it. That was the first time I smiled truly at that night.
