The past hurts

"How could you do that?!" I asked my father in disbelief.

"I didn't do anything and it's none of your business!" He shouted at me. We were never really close with my father. He was obsessed with the pack, that was why he never quit phasing and when I had became a wolf he was delighted that I finally did something good in my life. I was much closer to my mother, who was my father's imprint. She went away for the weekend to visit her parents. And on the same weekend my father's mother died. He got pretty drunk, well let's just say, the amount of alcohol in him would have already killed a human.

I was reading peacefully in my room when someone knocked on the front door. It was Kevin Grey. He was the son of the pub owner. He was also a good friend of mine. He had told me that my father was drunk and he punched her sister when she tried to get him to stop drinking. I was instantly running toward the pub. I apologised to Kate a millon times while I dragged my father away.

So that was how we got here. "You didn't do anything?! You punched a girl in the face right in front of everyone!" I shouted at him angrily.

"She was the one who was asking for it! Rule number one: never try to take the drink away from a sad drunk old man!"

"But you are not an old man! Or at least you don't look like one. Why don't you quit phasing and spend some time with us? Mom is worrying about you all the time and you don't even care!"  I was now really angry with him. He was almost never home. And I saw mom once crying that he probably doesn't love her anymore. Of course that could never happen because they were imprints. But I sometimes caught myself wondering if they would be together if they weren't imprinted. I am not saying that my father was a bad guy. He had his good moments but...

Suddenly my father slapped me. With such a force that I almost fell down. I looked at him in shock. "Never tell me that I don't care about your mother! She is my everything, you are the one who pulled us apart!"  He shouted and was ready to hit me again, but then we heard my mother's cheerful voice.

"Hello boys! How was the weekend? Did anything happen?" She asked with a smile as she stepped in the kitchen. However her smile quickly vanished when she saw us. Both of us were panting and my nose was bleeding and my father was drunk. "What is going on?" She asked and looked at me with concern.

I was shaking because I was full of anger toward my father. I tried to remind myself that he was drunk, but it was useless. "Edward are you okay?" She asked and stepped closer to me. I stepped back feeling out of control. I was a young werewolf. I didn't have a good control at that time and it didn't help that I wanted to hit my father.

"Edward calm down!" I heard the concerned voice far away and I barely felt the hand on my shoulder. I was shaking like crazy.

"Elisabeth! Step back now!" I heard my father warnings. He saw through his drunken haze and realised that his imprint was in danger.

My breathing was fast. I tried to calm down but I couldn't. I needed space I was owerhalmed. "No! I know he can do it! Edward look at me, focus." My mother stepped closer and I lost it.

I phased in the kitchen, knocking her away. Luckily my claws only touched her arms but she landed on a couple of glasses and dishes and I heard her head collide with the floor with a sickening thump. The scent of blood filled the room. My father looked terrified and he ran up to her. I phased back my hands were trembeling. I hurt my mother. The only person who ever loved me and the only person I loved. I put some clothes on and looked at my father. He was holding mom and trying to hold back tears.

When he looked at me, his eyes were full of rage. "Don't just stand there you idiot! Help me get her to the hospital!" It was like he wasn't drunken anymore. I got to their sides and saw that my mother was bleeding badly. I helped my father to pick her up without hurting her more and we ran to the hospital.

A doctor came to us and my father told him in a whisper that I phased next to her. Forunately he knew the secret. The doctor nodded and they took my mother away.

We waited for hours and they were the longest ones in my life. I needed to wait in a little room with my father. Who didn't look at me once. When the doctor came back, he told us that mom was okay but she was in coma. My father thanked him for his hard work and went to see her. The doctor looked at me with sympathy as he left.

My father was well known in the reservation and in the wolf-world. That was why he didn't want to quit phasing. And that's why he looked 10 years younger than my mother.

The visiting hours were almost over when my father came out of the room. He glared at me and said I had five minutes before we were leaving.

I went in and sat next to my mom. She looked so fragile. The thought that I was the one who caused her to be like this was killing me. A few tears left my eyes while I forced myself to look at her and made myself remember how dangerous I was. Fortunately I managed to choke out how sorry I was before my father returned.
