Guideline
"How do you know about it?" I asked a knot forming in my stomach. I never told her about the imprint connection. I didn't want her to feel forced in this relationship. But the cat is out of the bag and it is time for some damage control, because probably it's not a good look that she did not hear of it from me.
"Rose mentioned it in passing." She mumbled. Rose? It could have been a geniuine accident or she wanted to prob at our relationship. It is kind of a test though, will it scare off Bella? Well, she knows I am a warewolf and she is willingly sharing space with me. But this is different, this is more, more personall? She deserved to know about it, what she was getting into.
"What did she tell you?" I asked. My voice despite my best efforts still sounded tense. I also noticed that my hold on the steering wheel tightened. I let out a sigh and pulled over. I wanted to be able to fully focus on this conversation.
Bella glanced over for a moment as I tried to relax my hands by tapping quietly on the wheel. As I noticed her gaze I stopped. "Appologies." I whispered.
She quickly shook her head and turned ahead. "It's okey." She swallowed quite loudly, I could not help it, but I looked at her and at the same time she looked back at me. Just as surprised by the loudness of that gulp. We started to chuckle then laugh, the tension in the air fading away a bit. As she looked away again, preparing to talk, the smile dissapeared from her face, but her eyes weren't as tense as before. "She told me that I am your imprint." I nodded.
"Well you are." I said slowly, weighting my words. She looked at me, her eyes clearly edging me to go on. I closed my eyes and just thought to hell with it, she has to learn of it and it is best that she hears it from me, at least the parts that Rose didn't already give away. "Imprinting, well... It's a powerful bond between two people. A wolf imprints when he finds his soul mate. That one person would become the centre of their life, the gravity to earth. The wolf will do anything for them and be wathever they need. Brother, friend... lover. Anything just to stay in their imprint's life." I finished and looked at my angel. She was far away in thought. I didn't want to interrupt her so I just looked out at the darkening forest next to the road, trying to give her some privacy with her thoughts.
"So," she started slowly, "you only love me because some weird chemical reaction?" Her voice trembled at the end.
I shook my head quickly. " No. No, sweetheart." I said. I was unsure if it was appropriate for me to hold her hand, but I needed her to understand, so I gently grabbed her hands, featherlightly. "That's the big book definition of imprinting. I think, it is more accurate to say that it is a guideline, that helps you find someone special, who you can help and they can help you. Imprinting doesn't equall romantic love, my love for you is all from me and it is you who is making me feel this warm, fluffy, safe feeling, not some animal chemicals. You have to believe me when I say that I love you for you." During my talk I felt reassured by her hand grabbing back.
"I believe." She whispered. I smiled while nodding, I let her hands go with my right one and cupped her face. I leaned closer slowly, giving her time to move away if it is too much for now. She didn't, so I kissed her slowly. I pourred all my love for her in it. Wanting her to understand how much she means to me.
When we pulled apart I restarted the truck and continued our way to her home, the rest of the drive was spent in comfortable silence, except the times Bella asked further clarifications about the whole imprinting.
When we arrived as she was getting ready to exit the truck I grabbed her hand. "Are you sure this imprinting doesn't bother you?" I had to make sure of it. If she feels forced into this, I would let her go.
"Yes, I have an inkling if there was no imprinting we still would have ended up together. Imprinting just made it quicker and I could never mind that." She said with a grin and I couldn't help but return it. She kissed my cheek and hopped out of the car.
I walked her to the door and leaned down for one last kiss, but the door suddenly opened and there stood Charlie. I quickly redirected myself to a quick peck on her cheek. She knowingly smiled at me and I raised my eyebrows at her, like she would kiss me infront of her dad. Her sheriff dad who perfectly knows how to use a gun. Werewolf this and that, I am in no need of being shot.

The drive home was uneventful and I just got back to the end of dinner, most of the plates already empty. I got my own plate of food and quickly dig in to catch up with them. Carlisle was looking a bit hyper, when I looked at him questioningly, he just looked at my plate, indicating that I could eat without worry. At least I hoped that's what the look meant.
"Bella is a lovely girl, Edward." Esme smiled at me and I tried to smile back with my mouth full. I heard Alice chuckle at my attempt.
"Yeah Eddie, but she shall not play Monopoly with us again." We rolled our eyes at Emmett.
"Edward." I mockgrowled, he just shrugged.
"I talked to her! She is so nice." Alice chimed in.
"And smart." Esme added with bright smile. I felt pride swell in my chest that they were talking about my Bella like this.
"Okay, I got news." Carlisle announced, cutting off our discussion. "Our cousins are going to help. They are arriving at the weekend." He said bluntly. I sighed in relief. "Five of them are coming." He added. I frowned. There were 6 of them and they were leaving their ground, leaving behind just one wolf to patrol.
"10 wolf?! This battle is going to be an ice cream with a cherry on top!" Emmett said excitedly, no doubt the very serious battle just transformed into an afternoon sparring session in his head. I just shook my head. I was still worried about Bella. I couldn't fail.
As I was trying not to overthink and chace myself into a meltdown, Carlisle's voice snapped me out of my head. "Emmett and Rose will go to Seattle and try to gather some information. The rest of us will get a headstart on training, Jasper will give the lessons." We nodded in understanding and I turned back to my food, trying to drown out their chatter. My thoughts were circling back to the battle and all the possibilities.
As we were going upstairs to our rooms Carlisle grabbed my shoulder and looked deep into my eyes. "We will protect her Edward." He said seriously, he probably notice my overthinking.
"Thank you." I said and tried to will his words to be true.
