"Ms. Lazaro. Hi! Kamusta? Nakapag-decide ka na ba?
The voice of Coach Roger broke me from my trance. Kanina ko pa kasi iniisip yung naging meeting namin ni Alvin. I'm so thankful that he noticed me. I was about to ask someone na kasi kanina when he approached me. At first I was shocked kasi bigla bigla na lang siyang sumusulpot but then when he talked to me, I felt secured and safe. It's as if I knew him before but I really don't.
He's really a nice guy and he's easy to get along. We clicked din kahit first meeting pa lang which is unusual for me kasi most of the time people who see me say things about me, like maarte or maldita daw ako which is not true, I'm just different. He's really chill kasama and he made me feel comfortable na parang no need to be awkward or something.
Physically, sobrang fit niya, no question na he's a basketball player talaga tapos ang lakas ng appeal niya with his brown eyes and dimples. Ang clean niya pa tignan with his get-up na naka-cap pa.
I might sound as if I like him but I don't know siguro there's just a part of me na wanted to know him better 'cause I find him attractive and stuff and he's my first friend here sa Ateneo. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
Ako: Yes po Coach. We've decided to accept your offer po.
Coach Roger: That's great to hear! Tamang tama, may training mamayang hapon. If you want, it-tour na muna kita tapos isasama na kita sa training para makilala ka na din ng team.
Ako: Sige po Coach. That would be fun po.
Ayun nga, he toured me around the campus. He even treated me for merienda bago kami pumunta ng gym. Balls being hit are heard sa loob ng gym. Siguro nagf-free spiking na yung mga girls sa loob. When we got in the gym, nakita ko nga na nagwawarm-up na sila. Familiar yung mga players sa kin kasi my mom and I are volleyball fans ever since.
My mom's a volleyball player before and when she taught me the basics of the game, I enjoyed it a lot that's why I decided to join the volleyball team of CSA and became the captain and middle blocker which was unusual for my height. If you're gonna compare my height to other middle blockers, I may be or I am the shortest.
Napatunayan ko yun nung I became part of the RP Team. The players from other countries are much taller than us. Sa RP Team ako na-discover ni Coach Roger and offered me to become the libero for the Lady Eagles kasi he saw na I have a potential of becoming one.
Coach Roger: Iha, maupo ka muna dito ha. Magttraining na muna kami.
He said tapos pinaupo ako sa bleachers. Hours passed and natapos na yung training ng team and Coach Roger called the girls to introduce me.
Coach Roger: Girls, siya nga pala si Dennise Lazaro our new libero. Converted siya from a middle blocker kaya alalay lang din muna sa kanya. She's from CSA- Makati. Ano pa ba?
He looked at me as if telling me to add something about myself.
Ako: That's about it po Coach. Thank you po and nice to meet all of you.
The girls then introduced themselves and made me feel at home. They asked me a lot of questions and I answered each one of them truthfully.
Tasha: Oh my gosh Dennise, I can't believe na you're here na.
We hugged each other, si Tasha kasi teammate ko back in CSA and isa kami sa mga close sa team. Setter namin siya and i guess yun din position niya ngayon.
Ako: I'm happy to see you here too Tash.
Ang light ng atmosphere and I feel really at home. I guess I made the right choice.
Ate Fille: Dennise feel at home ah. Huwag kang matakot samin. We're not gonna eat you naman. Ipprito ka muna namin para masarap.
Ate Gretchen: Ha ha ha Fille Cainglet nakakatawa sobra.
Ate Gretchen said sarcastically. Nagtawanan naman yung iba sa asaran nilang dalawa.
Ate Bea P.: Hoy kayong dalawa tama na yan ha baka magkaasaran na kayo.
Ate Fille: Eh Mama B, she started it.
Ate Gretchen: Excuse me, Ms. Cainglet. I'm not doing anything to you kaya.
Ate Bea P: Ayy tignan mo sila oh. Ayaw pa din tumigil? Nakakahiya naman sa bagong baby natin oh.
I just smiled at Ate Bea who's looking at me. Siya yung isa sa mga graduating players this incoming UAAP season. Medyo nag-aadjust pa din kasi ako sa kanila. I don't want them to think na feeling close ako masyado.
Ate Kara: Oo nga. Kayong dalawa, lagi na lang kayong ganyan. By the way Dennise, ano bang gusto mong itawag naming sayo?
Ako: Uhmm Den na lang po for short.
I said then we hang out after their training. They even invited me to eat with them. Nawala na din yung shyness ko because they really made me feel welcome.
My day is almost perfect and nothing went totally wrong except yung kanina na I was lost but blessing in disguise yun since I met my new friend. I can't wait to get this new chapter in my life started.
