(Y/N): Your Name
"I wish I can let you out," you mournfully told your owl as you heard him hoot for the millionth time this summer, clawing at the lock on his cage with his beak. "But I can't. I can't use magic outside of school."
Having just come out of your first year at Hogwarts, you were ready to enjoy yourself for the summer, to reconnect with your family again. But that, unfortunately for you, meant getting rid of your wizarding memories almost entirely. The moment you got home, your parents locked up your owl's cage, and made you lock up your trunk in your bedroom closet. And unfortunately for you, they had the only keys, and the only things that were free to be around in full view were pictures of you and your new friends at Hogwarts, as well as your wand and owl--as long as you didn't perform magic, and as long as your owl behaved, it was completely okay.
Sighing, your eyes fell on the single picture frame on your desk--a picture of you, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, all grinning cheekily at the camera. The funny thing about these photos is that they move around, not just stand in one place like Muggle photos would. A smile tugged on your lips at the sight of your new friends at Hogwarts, your new buddies since the beginning of your school year, though admittedly, your eyes never seemed to leave Harry's as he grinned at you.
Man. How much you miss him. How much you miss them.
"(Y/N)!" Your mom shouted from the kitchen downstairs. "(Y/N), can you come down here for a second?"
Tearing your gaze from the photo, you immediately ran out of your bedroom and down the stairs, surprised to see your mom holding a set of keys in her hand.
"Hey mom," you greeted her. "Uh...what's up?"
Your mom smiled as she pressed the set of keys in your hand. "I thought you might want to keep in touch with your friends," she said. "I know how much you miss them. Listen, I'm really sorry for overreacting like that--it's just, well, how would our neighbours react if they found out you were a witch and can do magic?"
You grinned as you took the keys from her carefully. "Mom, I got a note from the school," you told her. "Over the next few years, I can't do magic outside of school. So don't worry. I'm perfectly safe right now."
"Well, you're fully responsible now of your things--your wand, your books, your owl, everything," your mom told you now. "Just make sure you don't blow the house up or anything, and you'll be okay. Sound good?"
You nodded eagerly as you hugged your mom. "Thank you thank you thank you!" you cried, running back upstairs to write letters to your friends, but not before grabbing a cookie from the pantry that you and your parents made together a few days ago.
Snacking on the cookie, you unlocked the closet and grabbed your trunk, pulling out a piece of parchment and your favourite quill and bottle of ink. Then once your quill is loaded with ink, you began to write a letter to your closest friend, Harry Potter.
Dear Harry,
Hey! It's (Y/N), your friend from Hogwarts. I hope everything's okay.
I'm really sorry for not having contacted you in the last few weeks. My parents have locked my owl's cage up and hid my trunk in the closet, and they had the keys! But I'm glad my mom let me write to you. I might follow up with a letter for Ron and Hermione if my owl is up to it.
