Quite the Torturous One (Draco)

This is a requested story from MirandaHall01 , thank you! This would take place some time during 7th year, actually, long before the Battle of Hogwarts. No, this would not be romantic.

"I'm telling you, she's really annoying!" Draco Malfoy cried indignantly as he walked the corridors one day at Hogwarts with his friends, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, having just come out of Transfiguration. "As if I needed another reason to feel like absolute rubbish today. Did she really have to show me up like that earlier in the Great Hall?"

Neither Crabbe nor Goyle answered their friend. Rather, the two of them gave each other dark glances.

"Bad enough that she had to be related to that Potter," Malfoy added under his breath, biting his lip as he felt something lurch within his chest at the same time. No, it was not one of longing. He didn't want to admit it to even his friends, but he had developed a hopeless yet serious crush on you since fifth year. How, though? He would never know for sure. Perhaps it was something in the sassy fighter attitude that made his eyes widen in awe, or the way you kept yourself in control in situations of pressure. Nonetheless, he did notice the admirable traits you possessed, ones that he would never truly have the courage to compliment without initiating combat or the sibling relationship that you had with the legendary Harry Potter.

"(Y/N)? Is everything alright?"

You were sitting alone now at the (your house) table following the heated argument you had with Malfoy. Your head was bowed low as you stared at your folded hands in your lap, your hair swept forward so that it covered your face as it hung over like a curtain. All you could think of was your brother, trying so hard to fight through the trials in his way as he went to look for the Horcruxes with his friends Ron and Hermione. Was he going to manage it? After all, unlike you, he was the one stuck with He Who Must Not Be Named's curse, the prophecy that could dictate his fate along with the Dark Wizard's...

It just turned out that Malfoy was the least of your worries, anyway.

"I'm fine." You pushed the fallen strand of hair behind your ear and shrugged in response to your friend. "Just the normal."

"You mean your brother?" she asked, still a bit concerned. "Or was it Malfoy?"

"Malfoy's honestly just the least of my problems," you told her in a low mutter. "For all I care, he could just drown in a pile of dragon dung with all the other haters who didn't believe in my brother's cause. But on the other hand, I am indeed worried about Harry. I haven't heard from him at all since Christmas. Lord only knows what would be in store next for the both of us."

"He'll be fine," your friend reassured you with a small smile as she helped herself to some mashed potatoes in front of you. "Just try to focus on your studies. When he arrives, prepare yourself to fight."

You nodded in response, slowly pulling forth the large vat of soup and ladling some into your bowl. As much as you are worried about your brother, you knew he would be okay out there with his friends. You knew them really well, after all, having spent so much time with them during your time at Hogwarts--Ron, with his humour, and Hermione with her wits--they'll be fine. The Death Eaters wouldn't know what was coming for them.

Perhaps the thought of annoying Malfoy never crossed your mind, but it just happened whenever Malfoy made a snide remark about Harry in all the months he was away. In fact, every time someone made a remark about him that spoke of pure negativity and hate, there you were, firing up in protection for your brother. But while that happened, Malfoy only looked on at you with pure adoration behind his gaze of steel, and it didn't matter whether it was from the sidelines or whether it was direct engagement--there was definitely something about you that caught his eye, unbeknownst to you.
